I think the base 15″ Macbook Air will still be a very good choice for most people who like a bigger screen but don’t do any heavy video or photo editing while still being relatively light to carry. The 14″ Macbook Pro does look smaller and is much more similar to the 13″ Macbook Air than the 15″ despite being in-between their size.

The only thing I would be hesitant buying the 15″ Air is only supporting one display and lack of ports. It’s not an ideal situation for work, but it’s great for travel. For this, I think most people who do more work related or business would be better off spending a little more for the 14″ Macbook Pro. Whereas the 15″ Air would be more casual.

Gaming would actually be really great on the 14″ and 16″ Macbook Pro line but not ideal on the 15″ air because of the thermal throttling stability issue without a fan and then there’s the lack of 120hz ProMotion display so there’s an added value also for buying the Macbook Pro if you ever game.

Yeah i know… I’m old an grumpy, but if it wasn’t for the stupid video titles on this channel the content is actually pretty good from time to time. I mean, this is a pretty solid side by side comparison. I’m not sure if the clickbait titles actually work, on me they have the opposite effect and you sound way dumber than you really are and most of the vids I ignore because the title is so freakin’ stupid. The channel is so big so do you really need the clickbait titles? I mean, ‘What was apple thinking’…? A question never answer or really asked in this video. Not sure what it even insinuates. Obviously the air shouldn’t be on par with the Pro, to think something else is just idiocy. 🙄

The reason Apple’s 120 Hz ProMotion looks bad on MacBook Pros is the response time. Apple made some extreme trade offs- they have the highest color quality laptop display in the industry, but also the worst response time.

The average monitor is like 4-5 ms response time and a gaming monitor is 1-2 ms. Response time is a measurement of how long it takes the pixels to fully change color.

The MacBook Pro ProMotion display has a 20+ ms response time. At 120 fps, a frame is only 8 ms. That means it takes 2.5 frames for a pixel to change fully from black to white.

In other words, the colors of the last 2.5 frames are always smeared together.

You can see it in your slow motion video. The 15” Air is only drawing 60 images per second, so it’s choppier; but the 14” Pro’s pixels are changing so slowly that the pixels of each frame are smeared together, so you see more frames (smoother) but they are blurred together.

I can’t praise the color quality of these displays enough, but they have the WORST motion blur in the industry and that needs to be talked about more in reviews.

That’s why iPhone ProMotion looks better than MacBook Pro ProMotion.

Get a M1 14″ MBP on sale. It has a much faster 512 SSD, much better screen than the 15″ Air and you can get one cheaper than the 512GB 15″ Air. I’m very happy with my M1 14″ MBP base model. Not much speed difference in performance to the M2 14″ MBP.

I’m a little perplexed why there is comparison being done. Each machine is designed to appeal to a different user for different applications. The Air is a convenience machine not a performance machine. A15 inch surely is to appeal to casual users who prioritize size over performance as they are not going to be doing heavy load work… surly?

@5:30 I like both web cams. The audio quality of the 15″ seems better to me.
