apple has always historically massively over charged for storage and ram, but I think now might be the worst pricing ever. SSD space used to cost a pretty penny so the ~dollar pig gig they asked was only a doubling in price over what you could buy at best buy. Nowadays when a maxed out gen 4 pcie nvme ssd costs 7.5 cents per gigabyte? Apple asking for “only” 40 cents per gigabyte is still over 5x the price, and it is slower than the ssd I was comparing it to! if you go based on QLC ssd pricing you are paying over 12x!!!!! I am sure apple isn’t using qlc though, right?

And ram might be even worse, they want 200 dollars per 8 gigabytes which, admittedly I don’t actually know what kind of specs the memory has to compare to what you can get on a desktop, but the cheapest single 8 gig stick is not even 20 dollars, and for sodimm laptop ram that only adds another 2 dollars. you can literally buy a 64 gigabyte kit of laptop ddr5 for 135 dollars, the most common apple machines don’t even support 64 gigs of ram these days.

The build quality and all around very few compromises on the physical parts of apple laptops is basically unbeatable, but the specs on the internals? not that impressive, and buying anything but a base model machine just feels so insanely bad. I was lucky to have bought the m1 macbook pro 13″ base model before they nerfed storage speed on m2 unless you bought an upgraded capacity.

People in the US are so insanely lucky. This releases as he said in the video in the US for 1300 dollars, but in my country, Norway, the price STARTS at 19490 kr, which is the equivalent to 1804 dollars. 500 dollars difference on the base model is out of this world.

This configured with 16GB ram and 512GB storage is only $300 cheaper than a refurbished M1 Pro also with those options. But the M1 Pro has 10 cores, which is faster than this M2 machine with 8-cores.

A bit disappointed when the bigger chassis doesn’t help with passive cooldown. I’ll by the m2 pro. But this year apple make all base model has lower ssd speed. Makes it really difficult for those like me who just want more ram, not ssd. For the long run, I wonder if the slow ssd will affect the usage.

Insane that to get a 15″ macbook with 16gb of ram and a 512gb ssd you are looking at $1700 minimum, the cult of Apple is alive and well I guess, but if a third party Intel OS ever gets big user acceptance, they will feel it. Of course Microsoft will likely never let that happen, just like they haven’t for the past 20 yrs.

I bought my MacBook Air M1 for 850 or something like that with as student discount.
They are offering 2 inch bigger MacBook Air now for1300 pre taxes) .

It definitely sounds like a bad deal to me
