Do you think we’ll see the 15 inch MacBook Air launch at the Spring event?
Maybe apple might call it “MacBook 15″ or MacBook Air 15”
As rumors have churned along for this machine, I personally feel that Apple has a tricky pricing situation on their hands (of course I think that Apple doesn’t mind this). I say this because if the 15″ MacBook Air Starts at $1499 for the base specs of 256 GB SSD & 8 GB Ram, there would be two upgrades that I would personally immediately do, up to 2 TB SSD & 16 GB Ram & going off of the current MBA & MBP pricing these two upgrades add up to $1,000, which if the 15″ machine starts at $1.499, then with the additional upgrades & $1,000, it makes the cost of the Machine $2,499. And that point, you’re only at $100 less than a 14″ M2 Pro MBP with the M2 Pro chip. Personally speaking, at this cost, I’d be willing to sacrifice the 1.3 inches of screen real estate & get the added benefits of the 14″ MBP even though it will be some level of overkill for me. (I would be getting a dock on top of the cost of a 15″ MBA as well) so I am now leaning towards getting a 14″ MBP unless Apple shocks with either more ports &/or a cheaper starting cost for the 15″ machine which I realize is unlikely.
I’ll be nice but also Dynamic Island I want the max
Doubt they’ll have a 15-inch M2 Pro chip that is more expensive than the 14-inch MBP. That makes no sense to me. Apple should just release the M3 13” and 15” in Q3 2023 or later if the 3nm chips are not ready yet. I don’t think that it will be called MacBook. More like MBA like the 14” and 16” MBP. It’s essentially a MBA but bigger. That makes the most sense to me as it makes the lineup more easier. And they should kill off the M1 MBA when that releases or replace it with a new model (which doesn’t make sense). All we need is four MacBooks in the range, or the 14 Plus situation will happen.
Thank god Jony Ive is gone!!
as much as I like the air and I have the m2 MacBook Air but I don’t think I would go for a 15 inch it could be good for people who don’t want a pro
This would be sweet. I don’t need the graphics performance, just need a bigger screen for data engineering.
I’m like you Saran, I very much want the bigger screen size for Logic but don’t need the extra performance or bells & whistles of the pro macbooks. I do like 40 tracks maximum and my M1 air breezes through no problem. I’d be more than happy to wait until June for the 15” air if that means it has the M3 though.
On Jonny Ive and the 12” macbook, I remember Luke Miani doing a video a while back about how there was a plan to put apple silicon in the 12” macbook but they decided against it last minute. Not sure why, maybe a contractual thing with Intel? Anyway I think he & his team were designing it around A-series chips initially.
Well apple can release a 15” M2 air now.. simply because they can, and people will buy it, even with M3 coming in October. People may still go for the larger screen size, and Apple can save money (?) by sticking with 5nm M2 chips for a year on the 15” Air. October is also a half year away, so it’s not too bad. Apple is weird with staggering MacBook releases throughout the year anyway.
It would be something if we see it with an optional M2 pro chip. The 14” M2 pro will still have the superior display, more ports, and start with 512gb ssd, so perhaps 15” M2 at $1400 and 15” M2 pro at $1700? That should fill all the price gaps.
Personally I think M3 will debut at the end of the year with the iMac and Mac mini, with the MBA’s and iPad Pro’s refreshed in early 2024.
As for a MacBook personally I believe Apple will eventually release a 12” MacBook to replace the M1 MacBook Air… and will likely come with M2 when the M3 cycle is happening and will always get the previous series of chipset…
