I’ve seen a lot of reviewers miss this: you don’t need to lift your finger to move the slider for brightness and volume. Hold the button and when the slider comes up, you simply drag left and right. You can sort of see it happen in the video.
The only thing I like about this laptop is the space grey and the overall sleekness of it. The keyboard, lack of ports, stupid touch bar, no glowing apple logo, and way oversized trackpad – not to mention increase in price… I waited a year for it. Needless to say I’m typing this comment on my refurbished 2015 model I got in the mail today. Please get it together Apple.
Thanks Lisa. you are the most in depth thorough review on YouTube. always can count on you
I love how a small number of people are attacking Lisa because she’s not overall raving about this machine. You can tell she is disappointed and for good reason in that she is a pro user and the fact that Apple ended up marketing a “pro” laptop that doesn’t seem to be so pro after all. Coming from the 2012 MBP, I’ll be making the jump to the 2015 model. I would go full blown with a different brand altogether, but Apple knows how to suck you into its ecosystem and it becomes annoying to get out of it.
Most “Pros” know what their function keys do. I’m having trouble seeing the use of the touch bar. You can FEEL f-keys, and I imagine you have to look at the keyboard if you want to use that bar. Maybe just me, and I’ll wish everything had one in a couple years.
Great review. Thank you.
there are actually dongles with sd, hdmi, and several usb3 ports. for me one of those is enough. I used one for extra usb3 ports anyways
Great review
Apple user here. Can’t say I’m surprised about the lacklustre specs. No doubt Apple has been pouring over the user analytics of their 2012>16 MBP user base (remember that the _Send User Data to Apple_ tab was sneakily turned ‘on’ during initial boot up?!) and found _”Huh, everyone just seems to be using them to NetflixAndChill, watch cat videos on YouTube, open the odd Microsoft Word file and share some enlightened political BS on Facebook…”_
Yes, they *_have_* just become oversized iPhones. But what to people really do on them? Not a whole fucking lot really.
Hi Lisa, why do you say that the 13 inch has 2 (out of the 4) TB ports that are slower?
the specs on apple website are identical. Thanks in advance.
The specs on the 13 say:
Four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports with support for:
Charging
DisplayPort
Thunderbolt (up to 40 Gbps)
USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10 Gbps)
The specs on the 15 say:
Four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports with support for:
Charging
DisplayPort
Thunderbolt (up to 40 Gbps)
USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10 Gbps)
Can’t wait for the review of the mid 2017 MBP where they put back the things they took out!
this is Mac Book PROfit -:)
so the new pro mac products focus on fashion and gimicks and remove pro aspects, yep that´s apple in in the core.
I believe by 2018/19 apple will move away from the laptop line completely and the iPad will be their replacement. The laptops aren’t getting more professional nor powerful, they’re taking away ports (hell 2 1/2 years ago they introduced thunderbolt) now if one chooses to stay with their product line you’re forced to buy a bunch of cables and adapters. You can’t upgrade the memory nor the hard drives unless you do it at their hiked prices.
From this line of laptops and the 2013′ Mac Pro these are let downs. I do pro audio (Logic Pro X, Pro Tools and Reasons) along with some digital art (ZBrush, Sketchbook Pro, etc.,).
Been with apple since 2005′. 2008′ Mac Pro, 2011′ MacBook 💻 Pro, 2015′ iMac 🖥 5K

im an apple fan but what they did with the new MBP really piss me off. The future of USB-C hasn’t come yet wtf apple!? also two slower ports on the 13″? wtf is apple thinking?
Smackdown MacBook Pro vs. Dell XPS 15, please 🙂
Thanks for a really great, detailed and balanced review. My MacBook Pro is 2011 vintage so it’s worth upgrading. But if I owned the same model as your personal model, I’m not sure I’d bother.
thanks Lisa!
the 2TB SSD and CPU are soldered??!!!! So if the motherboard gets fried you’re gonna pay for a new laptop rather than a new motherboard. WTF Tim Crook
Tim cook to me is martin shkreli for computers
