People think that these if stories show how messed up and scary the world of Re:Zero is.

But for me they show how scary and messed up Subaru is, cementing him for me as possibly the most dangerous and scariest character in the series by far.

*For people that think the Ifs are full of suffering, read this section of Tappei’s interview for the Aganau If (Kobayashi is Subaru’s VA). Seriously, just READ this!*

Nagatsuki: Indeed. One thing I can say is that if Subaru tries to take the easiest way out of the many choices, he will end up in a bad ending. I’m sure “Aganau” is hard, but the main story is much harder, so don’t worry.

Kobayashi (laughs)

Nagatsuki: In “Re:Zero”, the main story is the most painful of all the IF stories. I hope you’ll read “Aganau” thinking that it’s a story about what happens when you take it easy.

Kobayashi: I’m afraid of Mr. Tappei, who can say that this story is “because he took it easy”!

Nagatsuki: This is what happens when Subaru is spoiled!
