that might be the only bad thing about hunter x hunter, the openings spoil way too much. Thanks to skiping them, i was ultimately surprised with the spiders and the king later on

Nen: the aura of your life energy.
Zetsu: the ability to nullify your Nen aura.
Ten: the ability to build aura around your body.
Ren: the ability to build a strong Nen aura and increase your power.
Hatsu: the ability to release your Nen aura.

The next few episodes will recap the basics of nen, so I don’t think you have to rewatch this episode to understand nen.
I like how Hisoka is indirectly keeping Gon and Killua safe, because if he didn’t force them away before learning nen, they would probably die in their matches against nen users.
Also, my theory about the Heavens Arena staff lady is that she is either stressed due to dealing with crazy fighters all the time, or the fact that she can use nen (since she wasn’t affected by Hisoka’s nen aura) and nen users aren’t very common to employ for that specific job so she probably has long shifts.

I am impressed their initial recap of the four stages of Nen was already spot-on (except for equaling Hatsu with Nen, which is not completely wrong, as it’s the culmination of all four stages).

Before Hisoka made his presence known, I was actually hoping that the scary purple aura was emanating from the Fighting Attendant. If you have ever worked in retail or customer service? Totally makes sense you would be carrying around a lot of general murderous rage and intent, as well as have tired eyes and a sleepy disposition. Plus it would make sense, at that level of Heavens Arena, the fighters are so strong, that even the Fight Attendants and building workers are also super strong as well.

You guys seem to be picking up Nen pretty well, but don’t worry too much if you find it a bit tricky or hard to remember all the details. A lot of other reactors… a lot can forget and struggle. For someone like myself who has enjoyed a lot of martial arts movies, it was pretty intuitive, because there are often such aspects in them, plus of course many of these ideas are inspired by real life, just in fiction they often take a more outward tangible, appearance. The idea of chi or life force or mana manifesting in reality to allow trained individuals to exceed physical or believed limitations etc Lots of fiction (and cultures mind you) have their own developed and refined systems around such ideas, I actually think HXH has one of the best, I think you will both enjoy it.

I was a bit suspicious of Wing as well, was I right or wrong to? Well I can’t say/won’t say, but he seemed okay in this episode, maybe he is just careful. Also my interpretation with Wing and his deception, is that it teaching all of Nen can be dangerous. With Zushi? There is more control as far as a Master and a Student, Zushi would likely listen and obey Wing more. Gon and Kilua are older, more independent and don’t really have an obligation to follow or listen to Wing. All three are young, but Wing has more influence over Zushi, including his mental and moral development. That can’t be said about Killua or Gon though. So I think Wing is weary. He does hold a lot to his chest though.

I like that you miss Kurapika. I was like that too. When I first started HXH, I was like… over a 100 episodes? Thats a lot, but then I started being like, can we make Yoshihiro Togashi immortal? So he can always write more HXH? So I can always get updates on these characters for the rest of my life? I am like that with a few stories, and fiction, you always want to get health updates on the characters and the like.

Really enjoyed the episode as always.

The subtitles on the version I watched said that if Killua failed to register for the 200th floor a second time he might be banned, not that he would definitely be, so I’m curious which is a more accurate translation.

It’s a little funny how much they’re overthinking what wing’s goals or motivations for being at the arena are as if he literally isn’t just a kid’s teacher who’s there to teach him bc that’s his job 😂

No-spoiler commnet: Killua’s fear will be explained in detail but that’s quite a bit further into the series. Just know that the cause of his fear is that he is facing something that he 100% cannot defeat. that’s all. He cannot use Nen at this point so just like the teacher said, he’s like someone walking into a blizzard not knowing why it is cold. He’s practically defenseless and can be killed pretty easily. That’s why his reaction is always over the top. He is not used to feeling powerless. there will be a deeper explanation for this down the line but this is the best no-spoiler explanation I can give at this point. Nen will be explained in much deeper way little by little.

In a way, Hisoka was taking care of his hasty boys. He warned them that they aren’t ready for this floor yet, as they could have died fighting someone who had mastered nen.
