Does it both support voice assistant like Siri, Google and Alexa ?
the sony xm4’s do not work via bluetooth with ps4, even if you use a cable you cannot use voice chat.
it will work if you connect via bluetooth to your external audio processor, such as a sound bar.
however, when you do speak (or anything in your room makes too much noise, such as the jet engine turbine sound of the ps4 itself), the game’s audio attenuates…which is mad frustrating.
Sony invented noice cancelling..it was copycat by bose
I would say do a more intensive research before comparing BOSE 700 ANC to any other Brand headphones. On the last part of your video, you mentioned that the Sony overall is the best headphones for most consumers. I disagree, here’s why:
Thing you are not aware of and not stated on this comparison:
1.) How many Microphones:
Bose has 8 (4 on each earcup) and Sony has a total of 5. Bose have two dedicated mics to isolate your voice from background noise, that is why your voice is very clear in a loud or windy environment.
2.) Because of so many Microphones to operate, Bose headphones has 20 hours battery life. Sony on the other hand has 30 hours of battery life. Why, they have less microphones to activate and technology to operate than BOSE.
3.) BOSE Audio : you can adjust Bass, treble & mids thru the Bose Music app. Just sound amazing!
4.) Materials of the headphones for BOSE is partially stainless steel so it’s more durable and its light and comfortable.
5.) I heard Sony doesn’t have the “self voice” features and you cannot mute the Mic.
Self Voice is very important for phone calls, this is how you want to hear your own voice while your on a call and the NC is on high settings. So you don’t have to shout while on a call.
BOSE 700 headphones have this features thru the Bose Music app.
6.) For consumers with BOSE soundbar 500 or 700 , the Bose headphones 700 can link with these soundbars thru the “Simplesync” features.
7.) Bose headphones 700 has the conversation Mode features too by pressing the Noise Cancellation button for a second.
With all the Mics and proprietary technology, Bose is incomparable to any brands, period.
omg can’t wait to get the M4 😍
When the noise cancellation is set on the highest two settings and having no music playing or listening to Podcasts the XM4 makes a hissing noise like listening to a shell at the beach. I have tried playing with all the settings and also upgraded the firmware. I have currently owned 2 other pairs of noise cancelling headphones and neither did anything like this?
Sorry Sony I am going to have to return mine as a quiet noise floor is absolutely key.
How is nobody talking about this in their reviews, its a massive flaw and I am unable to enjoy music or podcasts on them due to this distraction.
If anyone knows whats going on with this can you please help as they will be going back this week!!
Thanks for the review. A couple of things….
1. yes, press and hold power button to turn on takes a little getting used to. But it’s a feature to ensure that you don’t turn it on accidentally. I’ve used the 1000xm3 and it never bothered me.
2. Pressing and holding power button for 5 or 7 seconds when it’s off to trigger pairing mode… well, how many times do you pair your headphones with a new device? Most people do it for a few devices initially. You won’t need to pair after that.
Yes, both these points are valid, but both are also no big deal. I have never heard any other reviewers mentioning these. Obviously, they don’t feel that these issues are relevant at all.
As for the active noise cancelling capability, I do feel that it has something to do with individual’s head. I’ve seen a few reviews on the XM4 vs 700, most gave the xm4 better rating for ANC than the 700.
Thanks again!
Pretty sure you can hold on the touch pad with 2 fingers to toggle speak to chat.
Waiting for the airpods studio to make my purchase decision. I’ve tried the XM4s and 700 in store, both are really good. But I did prefer the Sony. Idk if it was the environnement but ANC was better, sound quality was better and they’re way more comfortable.
I have done extensive side by side testing of the ANC on both the XM4 and the NC700. Going so far as to have one Sony cup on one ear and one Bose cup on the other. I have used simulated plane noise, simulated cafe noise. I have boiled my kettle, I have a water pump for my bathroom, I’ve just had my neighbour trimming his fence with a jigsaw right outside my window, I’ve tested typing on my keyboard. I cannot for the life of me say that the XM4 is definitively better as some people seem to so decisively conclude. I have not yet (while using the XM4): Been in a car, on a train, on a real plane, in a real cafe.
The cancelling is almost identical, literally, they sound pretty much exactly the same. Where they differ is in what I call the noise floor. The Sony produces an audible brown or atmospheric noise which can mask but not cancel noise thereby making them seem as though the NC is better but if you listen carefully, the outside noise is at about the same level as on the Bose. The Bose pretty much has no noise floor and is virtually silent. The passthrough on the Sony is actually louder and more cluttered than reality which gives you a greater contrast between passthrough and NC, again this could give you the perception that the NC on the Sony is better. By contrast, the Bose sounds as though you’re not wearing them and therefore the passthrough is not as loud as the Sony passthrough.
My conclusion is that the NC on both is for all intents and purposes identical and should not be a factor in your purchase decision process. Also, once you’re playing something, I guarantee you won’t be able to tell any difference.
I truly welcome any feedback from others that currently have both headphones for a side by side comparison, especially specific examples of types of sounds that I will be able to confirm. I think one of the most valuable side by side comparisons would be on a real plane, arguably one of the most important use cases for these headphones. Recordings of the headphones are not a reliable comparison, there are too many variables involved: Microphone response, level equalisation, pre-processing, post-processing, export processing, YouTube pre-processing, YouTube post-processing/streaming quality, your own headphone response. Real life audio has way more data than any recording, all these systems are designed to minimise that data so at each step they can remove it.
So if you start singing a song out loud the headphones stops 🤦🏻♂️
So many things about this review that are flat out wrong or inaccurate.
Example? Active noise cancelling was NOT invented by Bose. Dr Lawrence Jerome Fogel invented A.N.C.
Bose released the first commercially available A.N.C. headphones, there is a huge difference there.
I had 2 pairs of the XM3’s and had to return both of them because there was a noticeable white noise sound when ANC was turned on, and when I rode the train, I got an audible clicking sound in the right ear cup (in both pairs I owned) that was really jarring. I bought the Bose 700 after having these problems with the Sony’s and have had ZERO issues technical with them. The only problem I have is that they sometimes slide down the front or back of my head if I’m being fairly active while wearing them because the rubber pad can get pretty slippery.
I hope Sony has fixed those problems in the 4th gen, but something to be on the look out for if you get the XM4s, while you’re still able to return them.
I paid $400 for the Bose and it was worth every penny to have a much more enjoyable commute on the train every morning (back when going to the office was still a thing) and for hours of sitting in a rather loud open office. Now that you can pick them up for <$300, they're an even better deal. They also feel WAY more premium than the XM3s did. I would definitely recommend the Bose as a first choice, and if they check all the boxes, don't even bother with the Sony's. The XM4s just don't look markedly improved over the XM3s.
I know the speak to hat function doesn’t work well wihh lawnmower, but how about other people’s voice? or in a crowded space? how well does it activate/false activate?
if its only wrong when it’s against lawnmower, I have a feeling it may be sensitive to not only voice, but also vibration, I mean that’s what differentiate our voice to others to a head gear, when we talk, vibration happen throughout our bones.
Anyone know if the headset is able to be used on a PC? or does my PC need bluetooth functions?
Don’t buy the Bose please, you’ll really regret it.
Just google “Bose 700 hindge noises” and you’ll see why.
I really regret getting them…
I need something to block out my neighbors music. Especially bass. Anyone have suggestions?
My XM4 is finally here! And it pales in comparison with my Bose QC35… the setup is too cumbersome, software sucks, hissing noise during calls, and the double tap/pause doesn’t work with Youtube on ios. What a f… joke! Sending it back.
Bs bose is better
No mention of the touch controls on the Bose?
