Thought the reason for the short cable was that Sony uses a proprietary cable for charging. I have a hard time using an ordinary USB C cable to charge them, and Sony documents that other charging cables may not work, so maybe it’s short for a reason??

I own the bose 700 and yesterday I tried the Sony xm4 and the Sony ones are way better in noise cancelling , comfort and audio in my opinion

As for XM4, I really wanted to see a NOTICEABLE design change. The same exact design is just boring. Still I like matte graying silver. Thanks for your comparison

Great review, me personally, I had the Bose 700 and returned them last week upon receiving the MX4’s. Several reasons why, first the clamping force on the Bose was very uncomfortable to my head, had to continually remove them due to the pressure. Second the multiparing on the Bose just never worked properly, when two devices were connected the audio would cut out constantly. Something that as I have read is a software issue that hasn’t been resolved for 5 months by Bose. Third the Bose 700 audio highs where sometimes piercing to my ears, with no equalizer to adjust it, it would hurt my ears to listen for a prolonged period of time. I was a Bose guy, but the 700s really need some work. The Sonys are much better in the same areas, very happy with the sound quality on these.

I have had Bose 700 for 9 months, I use them a lot for work, which is mainly home or office campus based. When travelling around I tend to use AirPod pros apart from on long haul flights or train journeys.The Bose 700 are the AirPod Pros of the Bluetooth over ear world. They have great noise cancelling, quite comfortable, excellent calls but what I would describe as elevator sound, like the AirPod Pros. As I have other buds for my music I will use other headphones for my music but can also work with. I am deciding between the Sennheisers and these Sony’s at the moment. Both have far more enjoyable music for my personal taste, but also can make reasonable calls. What I need Is the Bose 700 with sen sound and AirPod Pros with Sony wf1000mx3 or Sennheiser true wireless version 2 sound. I have the Sony xm4 at the moment that I am testing and the Sennheisers arrive today.

I guess both are good. I never used xm4 though but been using bose headphones from qc35 to 700s. And since i am heavy on conference calls. They are amazing to take calls with long battery and noise isolation due to 4mics. And sq is amazing too for a 350usd. Not to be compared to audeze or meze. Love em. And would not change for another 5yrs atleast.

Re wind noise, have you tried setting the ambient sound to far left and around one click to the right, it comes up with wind cancelling as the setting probably turns off external mikes for ANC, I haven’t had the opportunity to try myself yet?

Always a pleasure listening to ur reviews, u specifically mentioned towards d end. BOSE work for Zoom meetings. I am having this problem the mic of my XM4 doesnt work with Zoom or not detected. Did anyone had same problem? Tnx!

You don’t need to turn the Sony off to pair. Just hold power for 7 seconds, they will turn off but then go into pairing mode. But I agree, holding power for two seconds seems like an age. Bose and Sony NC are virtually identical, passthrough is hands down better on Bose which is like not wearing them.
I found volume control on the XM4 really annoying only allowing one step of about 3% with a full swipe and you can’t turn the feedback tone off. Bose can do multiple steps in a swipe.

I bought a pair of the Bose for exactly the reason you noted. For calls, they are the bomb! I’ve had clients thinking I was in a quite office, when I was actually outside on a windy say with farm machinery near by. Unbelievable

I really like my WH1000XM3s, and I’m looking forward for when the XM4s will arrive. The XM4s have really good noise cancelling and pretty good sound quality and now can simultaneously connect to two devices, so I definitely prefer these over the Bose 700s.

With the sonys, you just tap the nfc with your phone and the headphones will instantly turn on and connect to your device, same goes with the pairing, you just tap the nfc. quicker than the bose.
