First great head to head review I’ve seen on YouTube. Sub’ed!!
This makes all those other reviewers sound like kids trying to argue why their toy is better 😂
I’ve got the Sony’s and they are very good, couple of things I’d point out that were missed here:-
1. If you don’t like having hot ears then you are going to struggle with these, after about 30 mins my ears are hot and feel uncomfortable, might just be me that.
2. Totally agree on the cable thing, WTF is that shitty little cable, why Sony why..?
3. No Sony app for PC, only for android and iOS thus many of the enhanced features not available when using via your PC
4. I struggle using the touch apps on the right ear thing (pause, play, skip, volume up, volume down etc, find the entire thing flakey, I can get it to work but not consistently (especially the volume control which is very hit and miss).
Other than this the review was good
thanks, I think ill get the bose as I won’t need to have my noise-canceling that automatically turns off as I don’t talk to anyone 😅😅😅
Haven’t read the other comments yet, but a big thing you didn’t mention is that the Bose have an IPX4 rating and the Sonys have no rating. It’s a pretty big deal for those that may use them outside and sweat, or in the rain, or working out (which I find difficult). I have the NC 700s and am deciding whether to keep them or get the M4s, but I think your review even without the IPX rating made it clear that I want to keep the Bose. Thanks!
Awesome vid, tough choice. I went with Sony.
I actually kinda like the long press for power on Sony because my dumb ass always has accidental presses, but the Bluetooth pairing was annoying. I had to google how to pair a 2nd device.
Question is, if I would buy those do they come with that stupid mask?
I had my Bose 700 for a month now and a few days ago I received the Sony headphones. The Bose is the ultimate in noise cancellation, comfort, esthetic, and phone call quality. But the Sony is freaking amazing in music playback and app software. The Bose app is rubbish compared to the Sony app. Personally, I will pick my Bose headphone over the Sony headphones because of the comfort, noise cancellation, and phone call quality.
Thank you. Useful review.
I am going to uni and I need sound proof headphone. Air pods max are too expensive even though I have an iPhone 12 Pro. 😂😂 So I decided on these 2, I think I might go for the Sony, they would be really good when I am in my hostel and want to watch something when they are noisy people around in the other rooms making loud noises and that.
Could not decide, so bought both…I’m not into heavy bass at all, but the Sony’s do sound more exciting. Lack of equaliser on the Bose is very poor at this price point considering their competition. I have not done any technical tests but would probably give the ANC to Bose despite what others say. One thing I love about the Bose is the sleek design, I don’t wear these outside so not looking to make a fashion statement but holding it prior to putting it on my head puts a smile on my face, it is just extremely sleek and well thought out. I think they are more comfortable than the Sony’s too. Was planning to sell the one I disliked the most, but I like them both so much in different ways I may end up keeping both.
So for call quality Bose, for sound quality Sony? I live in a more walking city so when I’m out running errands or walking from work I like to call my family so call quality is important for me.
So I got the Bose 700 thinking it has the best sound quality and then saw all these reviews and had them exchanged to Sony XM4. Used them for a few days and eventually ended up returning the XM4 and getting Bose 700 back!! Here is my experience.
So I felt that Sony XM4s are basically just LOUDER than Bose 700s and that is what people perceive as better sound. I mostly listen to Urdu/Hindi/Punjabi and some English songs and for me, vocals matter a lot. I like to feel every singer’s unique sound and all other background instruments, and that is where Bose does not have any comparison. I felt that Bose’s sound is amazingly clear and you can hear all the notes and every instrument, whereas Sony digitally amplifies the sound, gives you a lot of bass but makes the overall sound muddied and especially the vocals get clouded. They were also giving me earache after listening for a while.
The Bose app also does a pretty good job at increasing the bass, and I agree, if Bose did not have this app to amplify the bass, these headphones would have sounded pretty flat for music. The app does a great job increasing the bass to enjoyable levels while still preserving the clarity and quality of sound. Sony’s app and equalizer are great, but again, they digitally modify the sound too much (in my opinion) and the originality is lost and I would get an earache with these XM4.
So to sum up, if you enjoy finer things in life, Bose is for you – but if you like listening to loud rock, metal and similar music genres and are not worried about the quality of vocals and other finer subtle instrument sounds, go for the Sony.
Bose: How good is it at cancelling someone loud besides you in the office? (for you, not the other person in the call), thanks
Im gonna go get the m4 !!
The Bose 700 has swipe features as well and other touch controls. It looks like you didn’t test the Bose headphones and Sony paid you for marketing to be honest. Also sony XM4 voice quality is trash
Lovely explanation Boss 👍🏻
I actually like less bass. I had the XM3 and while everything sounds good, the bass is clearly boosted and I get fatiqued by it after a short listening time (like 1 hour). I tried the Bose in stores and bought them. Their bass is not as dominant which is probably why many dont like the sound as much as Sonys but I can listen on them for hours. Just try out these for yourself before buying. They cost a lot and you dont want a pair which is praised by everyone on the internet but is just not for you.
Could you tell me if you have tested the “on/off” status of the speak to chat feature when evaluating the phone call quality?
In other words, is is possible that the ‘speak to chat’ being “off” would help the phone quality? Just a thought. I’m going to likely purchase the sony, but i’m a lawyer, that makes alot of calls… so that feature (phone quality) “could be” important… except for the fact that I mostly use these on a plane where i’m not making calls. So there’s that!. 🙂
Thanks for the great review.
When I decided to buy a new headphone it became to one of the hardest decisions that I ever had to make. So instead I bought both of them. I love them both so far. Both have their strenghts and depending on a use case one or the other could be the best. But either way you are not gonna make a wrong decision by choosing one of them.
Sony is more for listening HIP HOP or anything with strong basses, BOSE is more for classical, vocal and insturmental…
