It should be noted that this is an out-of-the-box product comparison. What about after-sales and longevity? Well, I can say based on my experience with Bose QC35ii, I would never buy from Bose again.

In an nutshell, they were great headphones out of the box but ANC stopped functioning properly (some say due to a software update). You can google it. It’s not just me, you’ll find plenty of complaints and even an investigation from Bose (so that much complaint!) which ended up with a non-satisfactory explanation and people are still having issues. What did Bose offer when I contacted them? Buying a new pair 🙂 Yes! And they were so kind to offer it for EUR 240 if I sent my current ones back while a new pair could be purchased for EUR 190 on Amazon without needing to return current pair (not that I care for). That is outrageous for a pair of headphones I payed EUR 300 and could use properly only for about 2 years.

I’ve had similar issues with my macbook’s keyboard and airpods pro. What did Apple do? They replaced the mac’s keyboard and also the airpods pro – free of charge – and allowed me to keep using what I payed for, rather than asking me to buy a new pair as a “solution” and for a higher price than I could get them for. I don’t have any experience with Sony and I can only hope they’ve at least heard about customer satisfaction and brand image, unlike Bose.

So, for your purchase decision, I’d advise to take into consideration after-sales as much as possible. Bose pair may be half the price for instance than Airpods Max. But also consider that if they turn it into a pair of junk in 2-3 years, you’ll just gonna need to buy a new pair. I know Apple would not put you in such position and I hope Sony wouldn’t neither.

The Bose ANC is not better than the XM4. Everything else is pretty accurate.

As an owner of both, the Bose shit alllllll over the Sony if you ever use your phone, as an ACTUAL PHONE…..
The mics are garbage, no ifs or buts, the xm3 is better than the xm4 in call quality.
The XM4 is horrendous and robotic, digital rubbish sounding. So bad the xm3 is better and it was hot garbage.
The noise cancellation is slightly better on the xm4, but in the real world ie on an aircraft. There’s No noticeable difference between the Bose or the Sony.
The xm4 is not noticeably different to the xm3. I would of gotten the xm3s again, but the store had no stock.
The sound optimiser is again just a gimmick, it barely makes ANY difference in the real world.
I travel for work regularly and don’t get me wrong, I love the Sony’s, but I usually want to throw the Sony’s against a wall when I try and talk with someone and they continually say what, I can’t hear you, or you sound like your too far away etc.
An airconditoner chugging along is No where near the same spectrum as a jet engine punching out crazy noise.
The Sony have a dirty, deep and bassy sound that I love, but the Bose win in call quality. That’s why I grab them all the time.

I bought the Sonys. The sound and comfort are fine, but the gadgetry is junk. I want the sound without the crap.

I want the Sony more because of its foldable design and its commercial by lisa, but I’m mainly using the headphone for meetings with a fan right next to me. Probably make more sense for me to get the Bose.
