One thing is difficult to do right is that when my finger is swiping up or down on the surface of the ear cup to get the volume for the right level for my hearing because the headphone getting louder or getting quieter very fast.

On the xm4 you can hold two fingers on the touch pad and it will turn on/off the speak to chat.
And in the Sony connect app, on the ambient slider, there is a wind noice canceling option.
The wind noise canceling works on the xm4, xm3, and the wf-1000xm3,i think it all so works on the xm2

Thanks for a very thorough review. I was considering which headphones to get. For me, I’ll have to go with the bose for a couple reasons. As much as I’d like to get the sonies the bose headphones I can pay off in payments, and I can’t do that with the soni headphones. I keep hearing in all the comments how comfortable the sonies are compared to the bose. I think for $400 the bose would be comfortable enough for me. I’m sure they wouldn’t feel uncomfortable if I wore them for long periods of time. I know you can do different EQ settings in the bose app so I’m sure I would like the sound, but if the bass isn’t good enough for me, I could just return them. I also like the fact, that if I have questions, I can get in touch with Bose customer service and getting hold of anyone at soni is difficult. Besides, there isn’t any reason why someone couldn’t have both headphones. I listen to a lot of bluegrass and classic country and there isn’t a lot of bass in that music anyway. I also like with the bose headphones, the touch gestures seem very intuitive. I’ve heard that the play/pause gesture is a single finger double tap. This gesture will also hang up or answer calls. I’m very familiar with a similar gesture of a 2 finger double tap which is a gesture that I use in voice over all the time. I’m totally blind so I use voice over to use my iPhone 8. I also think which headphone is best is a very individual preference. Thanks again for a great review.

Xm4s have trash Bluetooth connectivity if u try to use it for more than one device. Huge concern imo

Bose NC 700 has a pairing and stuttering issue. They are unable to resolve it for more than a year. Think twice before getting one.

Just bought the mx4’s and the white noise is very ‘there’, I don’t know if I can live with it. Does anyone have the same issue with the 700’s? The wind problem can be overcome when adjusted in the settings, the default ‘walking mode’ takes care of that.

The xm3 could not connect to two clients in parallel whereas the nc700 can.
How about the xm4?

The SONY are overall better with smoother transition between devices, better App, auto off feature, 2x better battery life and more compact BUT over longer periods of time they are LESS COMFORTABLE than the BOSE. The Sony cups are shallower than Bose and i get ear pain as well as crown pain. It is a shame as i said they are overall better. ANC and mics are very much the same on both.

I decided to go with the sony xm4 as it has more features on its app. I don’t care for the call quality much for headphones in general which I never talk on the phone anyway.

Sony’s are being safe about activation, I actually like that personally……The ammount of times I have had certain devices knock and turn on be it phones or otherwise is insane… I actually had my phone on a triple 000 call in my pocket years back. So you do not want certain products to be hyper sensitive!!!!!! I prefer the Sony, though in saying that the Bose seem great too… It all comes down to personal taste… The Sony wins in my opinion.. The Sony is so much more aesthetically pleasing too! It looks so much more solid and bigger, and in alot of senses bigger is better. Sony for me.
