I did use this cable with xm3 in Osaka Airport
rubbery finish will deteriorate and get sticky after a few yrs.
Who’s choosing a names for Sony products???
Just a comment on pairing to two devices, none of the reviews mention that this cannot be done when using LDAC codec
I’m sorry, You don’t understand why USB C cable is so short when you pull it out of a small compartment of the casing? It’s just an in case you need it cable. Just for recharging at a moment.
Just buy another USB C cable or like many other people already have 4 USB C cables laying around. The only objection I have is that they didn’t give an extra cable but the short one is very useful for just recharging.
Do they still make your ears hot?
Thank you! You’ve helped me make up my mind and I’ll be picking these up when they come out next week.
cory wong! nice
did they address the complaints about the xm3 touch thing didn’t work in Subzero cold environment??
Which color do you prefer? That’s all that it comes down to for me
Obviously a paid advertisement.
Honestly it’s kind of underwhelming. There were a lot of better features, but they kinda feel like xm3s all throughout. I was expecting better battery, a really huge improvement with the call quality, and an even better sound quality to match sennheisers. But for the overall I do think it’s still worth it, but I’m gonna stick to the xm3s
Where is the demo???
I’ll stick to my xm3’s for now power button, improved touch controls and they probably still get pretty warm the earcups 👈🏾🤔
The reason why the usb c cable is small is that the smaller it is the faster the charge power from the power device. Otherwise a long cable needs a thick cord because to retain the fast speed and charge hence $$$
Dude You lost ur credibility on me with the XM3 where it sounded like Bose sponsored you on a Sony review.
xm3 have terrible call-sound & noise-cancellation of the sound of your mic (they have good noise-cancellation of the sound you receive). Very poor default bassy & mushy sound, but when you config EQ to your taste over mobile app xm3 sound it’s much better than the mdr1000x for example (and I was very happy with the mdr1000x).
xm3 also suck real bad in the pairing/connection/drivers aspect. If you switch devices you’ll always have to remove/re-pair/reconnect them again – and it’s much slower than just plugging a cable.
On smartphones the remove/re-pair/reconnect process is not much of a trouble – works reliably and is reasonably fast, also quality is always good (if you’ve configured your app EQ). On other devices however things are not ideal. On win10 it’s mostly ok too, sometime (rarely) the first remove/re-pair/reconnect attempt might not be successful, but rinse&repeat and the second time it’ll connect properly. It’s a bit slower than on phone – each of these steps remove/re-pair/reconnect takes several extra seconds so it can easily take 15-20 seconds before you start using them (compared to 2-3 seconds to plug the cable).
On Ubuntu (18.04) however driver support is terrible. When you’re lucky they work & sound fine (they keep the mobile app EQ settings over to other devices when connecting wirelessly), but in Ubuntu often they don’t connect correctly the first time, very often in HQ mode there’s no sound, only in some “headset” mode that is terribly noisy (both in internal signal-noise, and external noise, as apparently in that mode noise-cancellation doesn’t work), and what’s worse sometime it takes several attempts to remove/re-pair/reconnect until you connect properly (then it’s ok as long as you don’t switch devices). And call quality is horrible! My old mdr-1000x(m1) are way better for calls. That’s after update of both the app & the headphones firmware of course.
Sometimes when you’re connected in HQ mode, and you make a call you fallback to that annoying “headset” mode, in which however the other side hears you better.
And a small detail regarding the mobile app & EQ (and other) settings. They work great as long as you connect wirelessly! the moment you connect over cable (which given the above issues under some OSes is much more reliable) but then you lose all customizations and fallback to the terrible default sound.
For comparison with my old mdr-1000x on the same Ubuntu installation I never had any of these issues, I mean when connecting wirelessly over Bluetooth (over cable it’s always fine anyway, and mdr-1000x have better sound over cable too – unlike the XM3)
XM4 MUST have fixed these issues if they hope to sell better
Not to mention that the main issues of XM3 are software/driver ones, which should be easy to fix/upgrade, but apparently Sony is getting lazy
That is now my dream headphones 🥺
Can’t wait to get mine this Thursday.
Sony employee: what should we name our headphones
Other Sony employee: I’ll check the serial number and we’ll name it that
