I had ATH-M50. They are not bad. People are falling into the trap of comparing several times more expensive headphones to them. They also tend to dislike their V sound recreation. I prefer M40 series myself for its more neutral sound. The real issue with M50 is how uncomfortable they are. Another problem is that it is made out of plastic which is prone to breaking.

Claims to be a video introducing the mass to audio gear, opening statement bashes best selling headphones bought by people who dont know what they’re doing in the space without any kind of specific explanation as to what make them bad or others better. I agree I want better but just sounds like brand hate without any kind of explanation. Considering how overpriced other “mainstream” options must be for $600 headphones by famous brands to sound way worse than the “trash” m50x’s I just think you could have arranged that comment around more specific criticism of the product.

If you really like music the only thing someone starting out needs to know is find something thats comfortable and sounds good for your type of music or particular application. That’s basically everything the casual listener needs to know. A pair of headphones that are comfortable to wear should be the first consideration. Then sound and cost. No matter how great a pair of phones sound. If you can’t comfortably wear them then they are useless. Forget about neutrality unless you’re planing on being an audio engineer and mixing live or recorded sound. What an engineer needs and what a music lover needs are two different things. No two peoples ears are the same. what sounds good to you may not sound good to me. An engineer listens to music at high volumes. Their cans need to be neutral . They aren’t enjoying the music they are listening for defects.

Yeah, a good amp and dac probably won’t hurt sound quality, but they sure can put a dent in my pocketbook.
