Hey DMS, just came over from seeing your video on Linus’s channel. Looking forward to your next vid!
As someone has been trying hard to perfect the explanation of hi-fi audio or audio in general, you made a respectable attempt but I feel the explanation lacks structure and doesn’t really connect to the view point of “someone outside the hi-fi community” as it felt like you were still trying to talk to or convince someone who has already “dipped their toe” in to audio but lacks the deeper knowledge of what makes a headphone desirable.
I think starting with a breakdown on how headphones towards the average consumer are being marketed and how to avoid the over glorify jargon that would convince unknowing consumers to make what could be an unwise purchase.
Then move on to explaining the different types of personal audio equipment starting with headphones, IEM’s, and other forms of what can be considered portable audio as those outside the audiophile community can relate to this unlike jumping straight in to home and personal audio. (mention Bluetooth for the hell of it since many would ask anyway where Bluetooth stand)
(Edit Note: beyond this point is the mark of an audio enthusiasts) Next would be of course the hardest part to move in to which would be the build type of a headphone, the differences and benefits, and practical use in day to day life (their daily driver). Speaking of drivers you have to Segway driver types and what they do to the overall sound signiture of a headphone and what is to be expected of a driver as this has a lot in relevance to build type. (brief talk about pads and how they can change stuff lol)
Then comes the nitty gritty of Sound signiture, Soundstage, width and depth, precision, syballance and peaking etc. (dissecting how and what you hear from these headphones). What sub bass, bass, mids and highs are and where you can expect certain instruments to be under (most brass being lows to mids, female vocals mids to highs, etc.).
Close off with what an amp and dac can do and benefits. From here it’s like a relief lol.
Overall love your stuff and style dms and would really like to see more people informed on how to look for audio and audio equipment (king of the hill propane and propane accessories joke).
Final statements with introductory chi-fi in the description from open, closed, to iem. Mention gaming headphones for bonus points to those getting in as most people interested to learn tend to be gamers lol. (actual comment that isn’t so much a critique on format is I’m pretty sure a good majority of non audiophiles don’t know what a m50x is and still follow the religion of Dr. Dre and the apple product related apostles *hiss sounds*)
How much do your ear rings actually bother you when listening to music on some headphones. Maybe my ears are just big and the stretched lobes just make it worse but I battle to get my ears into some cups.
Love the channel keep it going!!
New subscriber…not sure u include them…but interested in reviews on IEMs, cables, eartips…..sources/links to more FREE and… reasonably …..priced hi rez downloadable music. Question: at what point ….does a DAP or portable amp NOT….have enuff milliwatts to power cans and IEMs? Seems any DAP or amp capable of 220-250mW @ 32ohms impedance is a good starting point for easy to drive efficient cans and most IEMs….500-600mW @ 32ohms impedance ….SHOULD …be enuff to drive all but the hardest to drive…but at WHAT point….IN YOUR OPINION ….is 500-600mW…NOT ENUFF…and u need to consider a DESKTOP amp?….and is there another point where a certain power level desktop amp is not enuff? My current collection… DAP: FiiO M11, sometimes tethered to a tube amp: Oreolus BA300s, Desktop amp in the mail:Schitt Magni 3, IEMS: Tin P1 planar, Shuoer Tape electret/electrostatic, Sennheiser IE800 clones, Sennheiser DT880 classic/vintage, AKG K701 vintage. Thx for a video for people to cut thru spec-talk to get into our hobby!
Nice video good job
I said that once and i am going to say it again why you start to prefer hd 880 600 ohm over the hd 650 ???
Finally, a straight guide. Thank you so much. I can finally let my friends have a better understanding about headphones
welcome all new viewers from LTT, this video is for you!
DMS…Did you use LTT RED camera? Did you shoot some scenes for Linus.📹
I love shiny gear. What is music?
Great video as usual D!! ✌️✌️ PEACE ✌️✌️
This cleared up a lot of audiophile jargon. You’re a great teacher.
You should make a video of popular headphones that are exemplary of certain signatures. Extremely dark, great imaging but poor soundstage, etc.
I am new to the audiophile world and already bought hd800,lcdx,hdva600,violectric 800, bluesound powernode 2i,kef ls50. Am i fucked?
