Very nice design. It’s expensive, but there’s a lot going on in this and the controllers. A lot of parts to manufacture and assemble.

The reason PSVR 1 games aren’t natively back compatible on PSVR 2 is due to profoundly different tracking systems. One is separate camera and light node based, the other is built-in headset tracking. PSVR 1 games wouldn’t magically know how to operate in a completely different tracking system.
Not to mention the vast difference between their input controllers, haptics, and so forth.
Thankfully many developers are updating their PSVR 1 games for PSVR 2. As you might expect, that isn’t a quick and easy process (however, some games with PCVR versions make it easier to port to PSVR 2, depending on headset generation support).
