It’s mostly likely a marketing scheme. Beast their new AirPods are supposedly 2x better at noise cancellation, they made the first gen worse to make the second gen seem better. That’s just my speculation.

Mine got worse in transparent mode. Like way worse! I can barely hear others around me. In the past, I was listening to music while I was able to hear almost everything around me. 😢
