Using Sony wh1000xm3 I have to kinda defend Sony the ambience mode needs a physical touch to activate not hovering over it and I have to say it is amazing how it can differentiate between a pillow and a hand works like a dream. The playback pause/play needs a double tap not a single tab and I don’t know what settings u used but seeing that u could use the eq I think it was the stable connection mode which sounds way worse than the high sound quality mode.

these are great if you want to pay 350 for a pair headphones that will stop working after about 1 year. I get a loud high pitched noise now on the right cup that can cause hearing damage. Do not buy these. They also have sound sync issues with my Samsung TV from 2020, they lose synchronization after maybe 30 mins then the audio is off from the video. $350 that are garbage.

In regards to the sound going off when you talk, why would you want it to come back to quickly? If someone else is talking or moreso 2 or more people start talking then it would need time to let them say their piece before you speak again. Otherwise, you’d just end up having to take the thing off because it would interrupt so much.

I might get these and I might not. Tbh I’m not the biggest fan of the design compared to my XM4’s but I could probably look past it. But I also don’t really need new headphones right now.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention anything about the stupid voice assistant. I was wondering if Sony kept it in this model. I have the 1000 XM4 and man, it drives me nuts. Can you imagine a voice assistant that interrupts you while you’re listening to an audio book or a video tutorial or an important meeting? And it’s not just that the voice assistant speaks, she speaks very slowly as to deliberately try to drive you insane.

– Low battery, please recharge headset! – I get you want to notify me, by interrupting me, that my battery is low – but why the fuck do you feel the urge to say “Please recharge headset!” ? as if I don’t know that low battery means I gotta recharge or my headset will die on me? Saying that once is excusable, imagine having to hear it every time it goes on low battery?

I also use the dual connection feature, it was one of the reasons I bought it, and it works reasonably well..but sometimes it’ll act weird and cut out or not switch to the correct device. (PC and Macbook). What makes it annoying though is that when my PC goes to sleep or awakes (which happens sometimes because I accidentally hit a button) then I gotta listen to her interrupt me again – BEEP “bluetooth device two connected”, or when it randomly disconnects “BEEP Bluetooth device one disconnected”.

You haven’t tried the headset with mic, cuz that is laughable – it puts the headset into handsfree mode and you can’t use noise cancelling and the quality sounds like a $5 Sony ripoff. I wonder if thats the same in XM5?

I needed the noise cancelling because I work from home and its really nice to just cut the noise and focus on work, but other than that..this thing is a turd. The UI is garbage, the “features” are an after thought, and using it as a Headset (Mic and Audio for voice calling) is worse than a off the shelf $20 gaming headset. Thats my review.

Thanx Linus, you are confirming what I was hearing when I have been testing them at the store… Im not audiophile by any means, but buying such a cans means that you expect a bit more from life 😁 Maybe its not the time yet for BT audio products… not for us which search for good sound qty

I own XM4s and AirPods Pro and I’m a huge fan of the latter. I genuinely wonder why people like Sonys so much. Ambient mode is muddy. Suprisingly, noise cancelling is worse than APP. XM4s also creak plastic as soon as you open your mouth. I’d take APP to the airplane with me any day over XM4s.

I just got mine today and I can feel what Linus says through 11:54. Powered on and connected to my FiiO K3 USB-C DAC via 3.5mm on my PC and trying to play my piano keyboard over midi to Kontakt5… my 2016 ATH-A900X monitors sound way more open a sound-stage than these do. They’ll still be great for work and drowning out neighbors though.
