i have a problem where i hear crackling sounds whenever i turn the eq on,
Even if it’s custom with literally no change from when it’s off i still hear it. Anyone know a solution? cuz i had the xm4 and the same thing happened

Maybe it’s because Linus is of a certain age where physical control > touch control of media was what we grew up with and accustomed to and I identify with it much more readily so I honestly don’t see what the big deal is that other commenters are making about this video re: his touch control comments. I view touch / swipe controls on headphones or otherwise to be pretty gimmicky and never that intuitive or reliable, even on the best products, it’s not a selling point at all.

Linus goes on to say that he would unquestionably recommend these over the Apple Airpod Max regardless of price point which is a pretty good endorsement

Headphones are incredibly FUGLY. One of the ugliest headphones out there. They don’t collapse, they don’t fold the proper way. Even if they were a free exchange from xm3 or xm4, I would NOT do it.

This was a horrible review/first impressions. Just all over the place and way too carefree. Quality substsandard. Refer to MKBHD or better yet this guy being a professional sound engineer did a review with ridiculously expensive equipment comparing multiple other headsets in the same price category: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlQaZDw25Uo

Dissapointed given Linus usually pumps out reasonably quality content.

Why would you compare the sound quality of the Sony WH-1000XM5 in wireless Bluetooth mode to the Sennheiser IE 600 which is wired only. You could have at least wired in the Sony headphones into the same source as the Sennheiser IE 600 for a fair comparison.

How TF is the AUX cable a caveman cable??? 🤣
I use my XM3 as a gaming headset with it. Over Bluetooth connection, there’s latency issue and sound lags behind by almost 5secs.

I just listened to the XM5s in the store today. I shockingly prefer the XM4s more. I did also try out the Bose 700 and QC 45s but their range was…not full. It was in pieces.

Ironically, it was Beats and a cheap set of JBL that compared. In the end I decided THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TO WARRANT AN UPGRADE from THE XM4 to THE XM5. In fact in an ironic way as long as I use the Sony app equalizer and Apple Music song selections has Lossless, Atmos, or spatial…

It’s a moot point. I mean, Apple Music’s spatial audio can even make my crappy stock car speakers sound like I paid extra for the premium system (Which means saving thousands of buck on future leases)

AM I MISSING SOMETHING??? I guess I can admit noise cancelling is noticably better on XM5 but… that’s not enough to to warrant the upgrade for an audiophile. I BLAME THE SMALLER DRIVER.

Already bought them before watching this. I too found the ‘speak to chat’ feature too disruptive and have opted to turn it off. Also they are tight around the neck. Sony’s previous xm3 and xm4 win on ergonomics plus they can be folded up into a smaller space.

Ambient noise cancellation is claimed to be slightly better than before, but not so that you notice it since the previous Sony WH-1000 XM 3 or 4 were already stellar in this regard.

Where the XM5 are a game changer is in ambient noise cancellation “IN A CALL”. Previous models picked up EVERYTHING! And I mean EVERYTHING! Seemingly, even louder than the person’s voice! To such an extent that even doing something innocuous like getting a cup from the kitchen and filling it with water sounded (to the other party) like you were on a building site or having the kitchen remodelled. Bottom line, having a phone call from any noisy environment with the previous models was uncomfortable for the other party. Whilst on calls with a WH-1000XM4 owner I would have to move the cups off my ears because the background noise was truly horrible.

With the XM5 it all changes for the BETTER in a call. So much much much better! I have called from the road, with cars going by, from a school sports event with children screaming, and my correspondents thought I was still in my hotel room or office! I even tested it with a willing guinea pig, and made an espresso with a bean to cup machine and they were none the wiser!

That versatility for sound cancellation while listening to music AND in a CALL, IMHO, makes up for a slightly less than stellar sound quality. Even then, with regards to sound quality, we are comparing to the very best in high fidelity audio over bluetooth.

On the XM3 you had to HOLD your hand on the cup to activate and maintain the ambient mode – as soon as you dropped your hand it would swap back to noise cancellation. Couldn’t tell from the video as y’all cut away real quick, but if it works the same way with the XM5 you may not have gotten the correct feedback from the headphones.
