I bought a pare of AirPods for R2000 from a company named “Blackpods. They are the BEST AirPods I have ever used. I can’t afford R5500 for the originals. And I got this message not to long ago after an update. 😂

TL:DR – this is not only supposed to help customers be able to tell apart fakes from actual pairs, but also Apple internally.

People used to use fake airpods to come to AASPs and get a genuine pair. This used to be a very organized scam, where someone in china would buy a pair of airpods, copy the serial number, and make multiple pairs with the genuine serial number printed on so that when a person comes into an AASP and an employee enters the serial number into Apple’s systems, it shows up as a genuine pair. There was one downside however, because multiple pairs had the same serial number, and multiple people tried to order new airpods under apple warranty, they would get flagged by apple and one would no longer be able to order airpods. I personally still saw a lot of open orders in multiple countries (most likely from careless technicians). The quality was also poor on those fakes, and one would be easily able to notice the difference. This should hopefully make it easier for people working internally with airpods to tell apart fakes from actual airpods.
