I’ve got a logitech G35 headset and it’s preformed pretty good I would say. I feel like it was worth the money I paid.
dislike for the long ass outro with the pathetic sellout
As an audiophile, I’ll break it down like this. This is long, I apologize, but very thorough.
1) ALL headphones have directional audio. Every single one. Its called binaural technique. Its a recording device and provides positional audio on all sound systems. Do NOT buy a headset based on “surround sound” or “positional audio” or whatever crap they shill.
2) You will not really notice a difference between a 50$ headset and a 50$ gaming headset typically. If your budget is low, I would actually recommend a gaming headset due to the convenience
3) gaming headsets, as a generality, are far more comfortable for extended wear over high end audio headphones. I currently own pioneer HDJ-1500, HDJ -2000, ATH M50x, Beyerdynamic Beyerdynamic DT-990’s, and AKG K240. (Why? Because they are typically each used for separate things. AKG for monitoring is amazing, the rest have a distinct sound signature that colors the sound). I have also owned razer kraken and steel series siberia v2. The Kraken’s were the MOST COMFORTABLE headsets i’ve ever worn. Bar none. They sound “ok” I guess, but nothing compared to my higher end headsets. IF you are JUST GAMING and wearing headphones for a long time, its hard to go wrong with the razers. The all plastic construction concerns me, but not an issue if you are extremely careful
Why buy a higher end headphone? Well. Sound quality. If you can “A-B” test them, you will hear a REMARKABLE difference in sound quality. Until you experience it yourself, its quite easy to be skeptical. Most reviews on gaming headsets tend to be from the ignorant consume base that has frankly not experienced higher end headphones before. “OMG IT SOUNDS AMAZING!”… not quite.
For the money here are some recommendations to get you started. The sub 100$ market changes daily, and has too many competitors to mention, and typically you are better off just getting the gaming headset anyway.
100$ (do NOT buy these at full price, they go on sale ALL THE FUCKING TIME)
ATH M50x -> pleasing audio signature that doesn’t come at a huge cost. These are probably the most commonly recommended headphones of all time lol
130-150$
Pioneer HDJ-1500 -> these… these punch WAY above their price point. Comparable to 300$+ headphones in terms of audio quality. The problem? They use special ear pads that focus the bass (it literally will rattle your head, these do not distort, ever) which after extended usage causes some pretty bad ear pain (they pinch against the edge of your ear on your head, and they clamp down hard). The sound quality is absurd for the money. The noise isolation is unparalleled as well. Seriously, crank them full blast, and a person sitting right next to you cant hear you. If you’re into EDM or heavier Rock styles, these headphones are the absolute best sounding you can get under 300$
Pioneer HDJ-2000’s use identical drivers to the 1500, but have a larger design and are much more comfortable (much more expensive too), but the trade off is you lose that focused bass sound, which is unfortunate. The price difference is frankly not worth the jump. For 300$ there are better options. I bought a used pair for 80$, only reason i looked at these.
200$
Beyerdynamic DT990’s -> these are EXTREMELY comfortable (almost as good as the razer haha), and have a very “Clean” and “open” sound. The bass is awesome, but lacks the focus of the HDJ-1500’s. They have almost no sound isolation, so be wary of that. These sound amazing for dynamics and movies. If youre into classical music, holy crap these are the best sub 500$ headphones you can get, but i doubt this is the demographic for that. For the average gamer/music enthusiast, you are probably better off with the hdj or m50x.
300$
Philips Fidelio X2 -> holy crap these are the “total package” headphones. I got to play around with a friends set, and they are on my “To buy list”. They are comfortable, reliable, durable, sound AMAZING, and have a very pleasing aesthetic. Win-win-win. The only downside is the slightly high cost.
Above the 300$ range you start getting into the world of diminishing returns. A 10,000$ headset wont really sound 9,700$ better than a quality 300$ set. There are SOME exceptions, but most 300+ headphones become what we call “reference” sounding. This means you are getting closer and closer to what it would sound like in a “live” situation, as it was recorded and mastered. Most people dont actually care for this style of headphones, they want some “coloring” (think extra bass or midrange here).
I guess I don’t need a gaming headset. The normal headphones work perfectly fine for me.
Fuck me; your over use of sponsored content is terrible.
I used several gaming headset until recently when I switched over to ATH-M40x. I will never buy gaming headsets again.
my astro a40s are fucking amazing, had them for 2 years
Now that I have a snowball mic I never will waste my money on shit headsets. Headphone’s all the way
i recently bought the logitech g633 and they do sound better than my analog philips fidelios x2’s, and they where cheaper…
Here i am with My turtle beach px22’s. Well i still dont regret getting it
That gamer aesthetic though

just get the HyperX Cloud 2
Logitech G930, *not even once.*
Seriously. Terrible software support and drivers, damn thing disconnects on you like mad, the battery can actually be discharging even when it’s connected and “charging” (and then it disconnects and you have to plug it back in…after unplugging it…because it was already plugged in and this shouldn’t be happening), amongst other things.
vsauce???
So I recently bought a Cloud 2 gaming headset and have a slight problem. So basically the Cloud 2 rather than using a usb strait out uses a single cord that plugs into an audio control that than plugs in using a USB. So my problem is that the audio control has a frayed wire on the inside. So it doesn’t work but I don’t know where I could buy something like that but I don’t want to get a whole new headset. So does anyone know if I could buy something like that somewhere online or should I just contract Kingston?
oh and here is an image of what I’m talking about (http://puu.sh/nIgsh/d773f41c09.jpg)
