Interesting. Looking forward to a full review. I’m very skeptical of this bespoke method especially when the resolution doesn’t match the Varjo Aero and the FOV isn’t going to be very wide. I can’t tell if I would get this without trying it and how would you when it’s custom? I have no upgraded from Occulus 1 as I keep expecting a headset that brings suitable FOV and clarity in terms of pixel per degree. I think eye tracking won’t matter that much with graphical processing in next generation, even this generation is incredibly good. I want it for SIMs but would like to game with it too.
honestly, If I had a thousand dollars to spend and the light leak isn’t bad (which I assume it’s not bc it’s created for your face) I’d definitely get this. Face and eye tracking just isn’t really that important to me, it’s more of a “luxury” than a necessity, but even then it just feels like another possible point of failure, which headsets today are already riddled with (Take my dead index because of a port issue for example, or my two dead base stations). So yeah, it’s a cool headset, I’d buy and probably will at some point if a new one doesn’t come out before this college student makes money.
So this is a VR headset, that has insane displays, is really light and small but the FOV is just ok. Wouldn’t it make sense to compensate a bit on the others to pull ahead on all these major specs?
This is actually just a great step for virtual technology. I can see this having so many more applications than just gaming.
Add some refresh rate, a wireless option, and oh boi would this be the only headset (glasses seeing the size of the thing) to be needed forever.
The foam might be not endure very well imo
even regular OLED displays are not cheap so I’m not surprised at the steep price. I can’t even afford a basic VR setup so obviously I’m not gonna get one but maybe someday
shoulda put quotations on “HERE” cuz it’s not here…
I don’t know if I would be interested in this headset honestly, but the idea and the concept of this headset is astonishing! I kinda wish all headsets were like this if it weren’t for them being standalone lol. I do want the AR glasses tho; I think it would be so cool to see a digitalized world around me. It would also help me to find things better because I am very forgetful.
I LOVE the focus on compacting the headset’s priorities into as small a PC VR package as you can, however I don’t like the liability of getting a face-gasket or expensive prescription lenses that have the possibility of being wrong or that constantly need changes with the cost and wait times behind such key aspects of using a unit.
I think the VIVE XR Elite is a great example, of an average one-size-fits-all gasket with the adjustable diopters so that instead of spending yearly on expensive lens inserts, you just turn the dial to fit your new adjustment.
This headset being so small already, could also allow for the diopters to accommodate for a wider, farther range of adjustments for those more visually impaired and a more average fitting gasket Option would help lower liability and raise the general value of the headset as it’s not locked into a single user’s specific facial shape.
I REALLY love this idea for a headset, but I think they would MASSIVELY benefit by equipping the headset with the ability to adjust to changes of the user over time, without the overhead of expensive and time-consuming customizations being the Only ptions available.
Now the price.
The headset alone being a Grand, after tax, with no other periferals to actually USE it & those previously mentioned lack of dynamic accomotations immediately disinterests me.
If other producers can ship a product with more features for nearly half that price, or the same price but with stand-alone capabilites & dynamic user accomodations, then that price-point is WAY over blowing the use-value of what it is you’re paying for.
I’d recommend they try dropping it & balance out the production loss with quantity sold as I can definitely see a TON of people jumping at a headset like this at a $500 price point.
One-fits-all accomodations could also cut back on production costs as streamlining it in such a way could lower overhead & time costs for all those custom per-unit produced parts
Im only about halfway through the video and im already EXREWAMLY giddy over the possibilities this headset can provide. Ive been using the Index since launch and I absolutely love it but for long play times it can get very tiring wo wear especially when I play something intense like Blade and Sorcery. This headset is putting us one step even closer to Ready Player One level of VR and I cant wait
That 90⁰ is really limiting, even the og vive has 110⁰
Imagine if the refresh rate was 120 hz
t=307: looks FDM printed to me
Looks like a great product. A wireless accessory would make this absolutely top tier. I hope they follow this up with a version that includes eye and face tracking as that feels like a big step back for new hardware at this point.
Finally! A PCVR headset! How much time gone until we got the PCVR headset with a not super-high price. I barely think I would buy that since I never had SteamVR headset and so it will be much more expensive for me, but I really glad that PCVR is not dead. Tired to see how much standalone headset are selling while PCVR is stagnating.
I personally would like for it to be bigger, but cheaper and not require to searching for iPhone-man for ordering.
My only thing to add-
People lose weight, they gain weight, eye prescriptions change over time… are we going to have to buy a new one for every time we change??
I was going to get a 4K UHD projector, I might get this instead 😀
Super cool, but no eye-tracking is a deal breaker for me.
This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. My biggest issue is I’m too lazy for VR. Normal VR headsets are too big and it feels slightly suffocating to put on. Once I put it on it’s worth it but it is simply un-motivating, it’s rare that I feel the need to go into VR… I want something light that makes the transition into VR easy. I want it it be like when you sit down in ur chair and turn on ur pc monitor. Putting on a normal VR headset feels like ur getting geared up. Putting on a super lightweight and small headset that fits ur face is perfect for me.
This is incredible… except for the price point. At $999 before any necessary accessories (controllers, bay stations, probably even longer connector cables) they’re targeting a niche market in a niche market. I really want to see this do well, but I don’t see this doing well.
