Only thing i wonder about is, how would someone go about getting another facial interface if theirs gets like damaged and nasty over time? I imagine Bigscreen would have an option to buy more later?
As a developer, if this had inside out tracking i would preorder one now, but the convenience afforded by the heavier hybrid headsets is too good in comparison.
Shame. My wallet just had a close shave!
If using this as a display replacement, why even bother with tracking at all? Can you use it without any tracking?
Tis is how older headsets used to be, before the Rift even existed. One small LCD per eye in a design that looked like sunglasses. One of the main reason the Rift was so successful was because it was bigger, which meant they could stick one single large LCD screen into it and get a massive improvement on field of view and resolution. Honestly, 90 degrees FOV feels like a downgrade compared to most other headsets out there, even if they are underselling it. Doesn’t matter how good the image quality or colour is if it feels like we’re staring at the world through a cardboard tube. I don’t care much for face tracking or eye tracking, but I don’t want to lose any visual quality when upgrading from an older headset.
Still waiting for the valve index successor
+500 pts for a dancing Thrill at the endcards
Its really cool, but its damn expensive for what it is at 1000 bucks
I’m a sad rift user ;(
The face interface looks to be cut from a stock piece. Id assume the later models will be cnc milled from the same foam, already having a 3d model makes that a quick and easy process.
But I see another group of people who would love to get theit hands on this: Modders and tinkerers. The frame is 3d printed, the interface meant to be custom fit and yes, the IPD is adjustibe, just with a screwdriver. The enlongated lens slit indicates as much.
Just a thought, but having to buy new lenses if your perscription changes is an additional consideration.
Can it work with the original Rift bay stations and controllers?
You are honestly one of the best things that could happen in the VR community
I’ll cross my fingers for an all in one unit from these guys
Sounds really good, but I would prefer something that has at least some more FOV than the Index I’m used to and eye tracking would b e nice for performance.
If only there were better controllers than those made by Valve. I switched from Index back to Quest 2 because the Touch Pro controllers are compatible with it.
That looks hecking amazing, defianlty some hype.. would be nice if at some point face/eye track could work out with it.. or v2 or such. but dam thats still pretty sweet
I sure hope there will be more headsets like this! Amazing Idea, only drawback imo is the price. Maybe there will be a non-custom alternative for less money one day.
This looks really interesting as I’m a PC VR user however the FOV would be a substantial downgrade for me (coming from a Pimax 5K+) and being predominantly a combat flight simmer, FOV is very important.
It’s a real shame because I’d love to support someone looking after PC VR.
what a cool device. The iPhone requirement isn’t good though, especially when targeting the international audience, where iPhones don’t have that big of a market share. Since this is targeted at a niche audience already, this makes the product even more niche. I hope they find a solution to enable people to measure their face in another way, or maybe utilize ARCore’s facetracking, which has become pretty good at estimating face shape.
I wish base stations were an option for me because I’d 100% be getting this headset if I could
