The form factor reminds me of the ski mask design, from the film version of Ready player one. And as someone who’s WIFI just isn’t good enough for VR, now my computers fixed I’m using the cable again. I never liked the quest honestly, for people who are mobile I can see the appeal or who don’t have powerful computers. Honestly I loved the Rift S, and to get a version of that but better would be great for me. But the price, yea that price isn’t great.

Honestly i was extremely happy until I heard no IPD adjustment. I won’t be buying it then… I’m the main user of my index, but I share it occasionaly with my gf, which has a very different IPD from me…

I just found my Oculus Rift CV1 and remembered it also had an OLED display.
I followed the video called “The Ultimate VR performance guide” from AEXLAB

Cranked the resolution scale up to 2.5 in Oculus Tray Tool, added Vr Performance Mod to my games an just WOW!

MY CV1 JUST GOT NEW LIFE!
Even though the screen has low resolution compared to new headsets the OLED display totally made up for that! The colours and definitely the blacks is amazing!

Could you please revisit the good old CV1 headset and see for yourself if it actually holds up if you add all the vr tips and tricks.

Man thats amazing, but thats price … argh.
Though i get that a small company needs higher profit margins as they will push much less units, i expect if it ever gets big price would go down.
I dont mind quest 2 field of view, i will take smaller weight and size any day over the field of view.

Now if only we get more than 1 high budget game for VR, but i guess Alyx will stay the only big VR game for years yet.

Thanks for the great review, the micro-OLED, size, and of course the resolution are the only positives about this HMD. Otherwise, the negatives are really hard to swallow:
1. Exclusivity to one person, which as a result means:
– lack of adjustable IPD
– every time you get a new prescription, you’ll need to fork more money to get it adjusted (assuming you are lucky enough to have a branch in your country to do it quick!)
– you can’t let anyone try it especially if you have a partner that you need to get their approval to lighten the guilt of spending that amount of money on a small piece of equipment that they can’t even try (or if you have kids, they won’t inherit it once you upgrade to a future HMD).
– every time you get a new prescription, you will need to pay more (assuming the HMD is still supported or you are lucky enough to have a branch in your country to get it delivered quickly without the hassles of customs, courier..etc). Similarly, the cushion which I would assume, you’ll struggle to get from a 3rd party (at least for the foreseeable future).
– As you highlighted, will be difficult to sell in the future.

2. High price point especially with the lack of :
– Base station
– Controllers
– Audio solution

Don’t get me wrong, like you I have the index and Valve echo system, and I am indeed looking for HMD for flight sim, but I can’t justify this at all.
Personally, like many people out there who loved the Index, I will be waiting for Valve’s next HMD (or even HTC Vive Pro 3).

This new trend of standalone HMD is really NOT good for the VR market and kinda reminds me of the microtransaction trends in video games. Which is of course irreversible now, but at this price point! nah!

Wont fly because they Limit to Market Scaling. They should do the App untied and sell the printable face Cover Files as 3d printable Download File. And they should add simple Manual ipd adjustment.

Love it to see someone making a Ghost in the shell/small headset. With OLED displays for nice contrast, high resolution etc. I still use my OG Vive since 2018. I can’t change to a LCD headset. It doesn’t feel right. I create a lot of different content for VR and i just need that contrast. Can’t wait until the headset is fully developed so i can finally enjoy no pixel counting, high res, OLED, light weight vr headset. It’s been 6 years and i really need it.
