Hows the “weight” of the cord feel? With the device being so light does the cord push it around. Or make itself notice able when turning your head.
This should be called The Bigscreen Thrill
Love it, but it’s going to die. The market is too niche and they won’t sell enough. I really, really hope I’m wrong though.
It also looks really good
Do you think it would be possible to use the Vive Pro wireless adapter with this headset?
This is like a lambo compared to my quest 2 in cost like I could by three people vr that could then let anyone they know use that headset and be able to resell it if had to or by a headset that comes with nothing, can’t be shared, would be annoying to sell, wired…. But it looks really good but the field of view is the same as the quest 2 so…. No I would not buy this seems like complete robbery and not something a normal vr user would consider when there are so many cheaper options or just better ones for your money. I do understand why you’d get this but without better fov than a quest 2 I would never spend more than a grand or even 500 bucks. Looks cool though but not for me
I think I might actually switch off the index for this.
It’s CUSTOM MADE specifically for you, and it’s ONLY 1k? That’s a DAMN good price for all of that!
The real issue I see here is the problem that the niche is way to small to be profitable. The tech is cool and for me as a prescription user it’s not even that expensive considering the amount of cash I need to drop on prescription after market lenses on top of VR headset cost. But all the custom stuff will limit their ability to ship product. I can’t imagine them having a ton of lenses in storage for all the different users. So if they haven’t they need to order them and depending on their supplier that will take time every time. For the price I wish it had a little bit higher specs. You hint at it, the 90/95hz displays are a bit too last gen. And the FOV even though it might be higher than 90 as claimed on the product page well I am guessing now I think that has something to do with the IPD settings so that’s why they go with the low number and that’s a good choice but it would have been better if that low number was higher. It’s an awesome project and I am really looking forward to the finished product I just fear that that product might not result in a profitable production line. Which would be a shame.
This coming out as well as some haptic gloves. The technology world is going incredible places
Finally, a headset I can use with great headphones.
Honestly I think this headset is the beginning of more then a corner of a market.
I once got a Vive VR headset (the old one) and I loved it
Beeing an early adopter for VR was wonderful and the fun I had and am still having I will never want to trade. I don’t regret a single Euro I once spent on that headset with the strange way you had to get a deluxe audio strap to basically properly use it and I loved it.
But the Vive is truely getting old now, I mean it works but it has its short comings and small kinks one needs to learn to work around over time. The rest of the hardware from the original pack like the steam 1.0 trackers and old controllers are ageing and are not up to standard anymore (especially the resolution)
But I did not have the money to upgrade, didn’t see anything that I felt was truely worth upgrading to or quite right to be upgraded. It’s strange …. The index was a good deal but very expensive and it brought with it new equipment that was cool and also worth but not quite for me. I also knew the industry would evolve soon again so I waited and keept playing with that old Vive thing.
Then came the quests with their ups and downs and it didn’t fit my pc vr stile and I didn’t like that that much + I hate Facebook (meta) with passion so they didn’t work for me. It went like this for a while now with different headsets and brands and offers but I just don’t have the money laying around to just spend a 1000 bucks to then be disappointed to have not waited another year for the next best thing
I honestly am looking for a worth upgrade that makes me happy for a while longer like the Vive did
And I know from experience that I am not alone with this. Many people are waiting for similar opportunities and I believe this headset right here could fill the gap.
Of course that’s my opinion but I think a price between 800 and 1000 bucks for a headset that works with your hardware (which can be more easily upgraded with the evolution of tech for cheaper then the entire headset) like controllers, base stations and pc AND offers worth while upgrades to the actual vr experience and gaming feel like this …. Well I might get into it
This might fill a deficiency for the market that holds many vr uses ready to upgrade but unhappy with choices so far. And if the gaming experience and comfort is even close to how you described it here
… Well this might work for many people in a very flexible and simple way
Of course that’s just my interpretation and my view and experience
But I hope my point came across
Have a good day guys
The only thing that’s a shame is that it has no eye tracking
I was kinda waiting for the Index 2 after my og HTC VIVE, but maybe …. hm ^^
I’ve been waiting so long for a headset that actually felt worth replacing my og vive for. I think this is it.
I do have to add one concern. As an older person, my eye prescription levels are constantly shifting. I use to have great eyesight as a teenager, but now it is changing from year to year, going short to long sighted ever so slightly and back again, and eventually, like all of us, I’ll be short sighted as I get older. I don’t need to wear glasses all the time, but if I’m tired, stressed or sick my focus can go out of whack, and sometimes it’s just easier to use very weak prescription lenses rather than just try to focus through times when the eyes are tired. Eyeballs and the muscles that control focus just wear out over the decades. So it’s really important to have easily adjustable prescription lenses, if that’s going to be the focus of this headset. I know in the comments that they have magnetic swappable lenses, but they need to be careful about making swaps too difficult or expensive, or else there is a risk of older people’s eyes wearing out faster than the tech that they use. I like to keep good tech, especially at the price they are charging, around for 5 years or more, like a console’s generation cycle. If I need to throw this out after a year, it’s not going to be worth a purchase.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk. 😛
Take the seller link, but don’t put it up directly, wait 3 to 6 months, then put up the seller link. I think, thats fair!
This channel is an absolute treasure, and It’s amazing to be getting such insightful, useful, and almost relatable content all the time. 🙂
Soooo, sharing of headset anymore? Hmmmmm… I am not sure if I want that…
I know you said the Steam Deck could run some PC VR, but do you think it could run with this headset? I have no experience with VR and want to get into it, but would like to avoid anything from Facebook/Meta. Does anyone have any particular suggestions?
