Oh man, I’m getting the Vive XR Elite. I have an index so this wouldn’t be an insane purchase. I won’t be an early adopter but I’ll probably get this eventually. If it does really well I hope other companies follow them and make insanely small pcvr headsets.
As someone who’s always been interest but still a holdout this thing checks 2 out of 3 of my boxes for VR adoption. It’s literally what I envisioned 2020s VR might be like. Instead we just got companies trying to jam more bells and whistles into the aging brick form factor. All I’ve every wanted from VR was a small and clear bespoke headset for PC VR that doesn’t cost a kidney. This is fairly close aside from the price. If they get the price down to like $600 I’d gladly buy it & just eat the extra cost on tracking & controllers. I even think they could break into the mass market with this thing.
Wooooow SEGGSY
I was pogging so hard until I saw the price XD
I know that this is probably a no, but does this work with glasses?
This looks awesome! Not an index user myself (though if I had an extra 4 grand sitting around I just might be.) but I LOVE the concept of this, between the tiny form factor and custom fit.
And you accually don’t look stupid wearing it
a genius idea i will say, but as someone that wears glasses, the “lens are made to fit your perscription” may sound good, but you change lenses a lot more often than you might think
could you imagine buying a whole new set of lenses for a new perscrition? id be in debt by thinking abt it kekw
Seems like a cool first step, but I most definitely do want wireless.
Since it has 2 USB-C ports, I would hope I could use one for a battery for power, and the other for a streaming device for virtual desktop. So the only cables are short and on me, and not wired directly to my computer.
“Btw i almost threatened them for a good microphone” cracked me up
Made for your own ipd, that will kill this stone dead as how would familes share this hmd, stupid to the max. Lll
please make a vid on the StonX tracking
Really wish they would have figured out an adjustable ipd.
I recon Handheld Gaming PCs and StandAlone VR head sets compliment each other greatly.
Handheld Gaming PCs are increasingly becoming more powerful, that eventually you can just have one connected to your belt attach an external battery pack and it will drive and power the most demanding VR games/software on your VR headset.
The fact it is so small that it fits inside the facial interfaces of the competition is hilarious.
Ticks so many things right, I’d even give up eye tracking for a form factor and visual clarity like this, but not including controllers/base stations at that price is a big nope.
Face gasket does not look easy to clean. I wonder what 6 months of face goo will do to it.
Basic head strap and 3.5 audio out is a HUGE plus tho.
Am glad OLED’s back on the table. Reason i always keep my Quest 1 charged, just for that fabulous contrast.
So nice to hear about some good hardware after a while
This make me sooooo excited for next gen VR headset, I really want one.
I believe they should have the option to buy an “average” version that would be done with a baseline with an IPD adjustor or whatever it’s called so that people can buy it for cheaper and use it with their family. It’s not just “sharing between friends”. It’s also “sharing between relatives” that would also be able to be done.
>Each unit is custom to you, this is why it’s $1k* and requires another $1k worth of Vive hardware to actually use it. (*+$100 to have audio via a strap kit sold seperately, because it has no onboard audio)
Okay, that’s probably the stupidest thing they could’ve done for a first entry market-launch product. It it cool future tech? Yeah… for 7 years from now when they have a reputation to speak of, assuming the market doesn’t collapse again. There are no financing plans for these things unlike a smartphone, and financing companies want a reputable manufacturer first.
