I don’t own a smartphone so I guess that rules it out for me. There’s always a catch. I can’t express how disappointed I am.
Looks really exciting though it’s sad it’s rather niche. If in a few years they come up with a system that has more fov, has controllers and maybe inside out tracking it would be a great buy. I still play exclusively pcvr with a quest 2 and the great performance over wireless is amazing. But that might be enough for me to take a wire again.
good shit, finally
This is inspiring. I am a Q2 user and other than some exclusive content, I usually do virtual desktop PCVR. I’ve been wanting to get something like this for a while and these Beyonds look phenomenal. My main question is, do they really need lighthouses or can we use something like SlimeVR or the Sony trackers?
Wow. This is huge! Great video. Your contributions to VR will go down in history! Thank you for making this headset even better and for sharing it! Great job on keeping the secret, that must have been so hard! I would love to get one…when I can afford one in a few years
I didn’t see a headphone jack, does it have one?
looks cool, but a pass for me…
I am used to my Index and to even consider switching it would have to at least
1. Match Index FOV (at least, I have my index sl close to my eyes, that my eyelashes touch the lenses)
2. Match Index speakers (their audio strap looks meh and wearing headset or IEM’s is way more hassle and less comfortable)
3. Have 120 Hz (I don’t need 144Hz, even though I use it on my Index, 120 Hz is enough, but 90 is the minimum I would call usable without getting sick and not enough for me)
4. Have a pass through camera (I use mine quite often on the Index, but in the colored edges/ghosts not in the full video pass through, and can’t imagine not having it)
And that’s counting on me keeping the Index for friends when they come over, since having it made to my face only makes in un-shareable…
Also, what if something happens to your face? IDK, maybe even loosing or gaining some weight would make the facial interface not fit as well…
I am curious about possible future iterations or maybe a bit different versions, if there was one that met all 4 points above, had eye tracking and possibly wasn’t a one-face pony, I would be seriously considering it, even for 999$.
This seems ALMOST perfect for someone who is always going from one place to another. What I see this as is the potential for the most portable and custom-made virtual office/monitor setup… Tie this in with a small form factor PC; and I could take my entire setup with me anywhere in a normal-sized luggage bag.
I would love to be able to lay in bed or a recliner, put this on, and comfortably watch or work on whatever I need to.
Just to clarify, I’m not much of a vr enthusiast; I have a quest 2 but rarely ever use it. There are a few things that stop this from being optimal for me:
1. Needing to use base-stations is a deal breaker. Carrying around extra base stations and trying to set those up in a place you may only stay a short time makes no sense in my case. Inside-out tracking and passthrough would be mandatory for me here.
2. At $1000, I would expect face and eye tracking as well. Though if they wanted to drop the price and never implement those – that also would work for me.
3. I would love for there to be wireless capabilities… Being able to choose between a wire hanging off for perfect clarity, or compression with no wires are both choices I would want in a device at this price range.
But that’s all the issues I can come up with. I may buy this just out of sheer support to see where the technology leads. Amazing video, can’t wait for the full review.
Still waiting to see what steam comes out with
i like the fact that is custom made, but i wonder how much will that affect the cost of the headset
Quite a crazy little thing indeed, good video boss. Keep it up.
Just a bit curious, I’ve smacked my face a few times playing beat saber, how would this hold up against that?
Holy crap this seems like the perfect headset. Though id also love to hear your opinions on the “high-end audio” strap if you’ve had your hands on one or at least when you get to do the full review. All I hope is for Valve to have the index controllers in stock when it comes out
Damn I literally just bit the bullet 2 days ago and upgraded my original Vive for the Pro 2 after residing to the fact that I probably got scammed backing Arpara… Oh well, I might thinking about picking one of these up once they’ve actually released because they do look awesome and I need a tiny headset, it is shame the fov isn’t bigger though.
As someone who’s still running on an original Vive, this is my dream headset, price is my only limiting factor at the moment.
Looks like a solid upgrade if you already have the index.
Good enough for you good enough for me fam. Looking forward to it.
It’s clearly for a certain segment of people. You do already own a pc and tracking equipment etc. I don’t have an issue with the audio strap being additional. I already have wireless setups for room scale gaming, so this would probably be mostly used seated, and I have much better headphones I can also plug in at that point. the lenses are only needed IF you need corrective vision (and don’t already have lenses). I use contacts, but they only charge $79 so I might be inclined to try it as that seems super reasonable and easy process as well.
Underpromise overdeliver, that is a beautiful statement :’D Hope to see this headset have much success in the future.
Sadly vr is dead for me. If anyone is interested in a valve index dm me
