I’m sure the high end prosumers will definitely enjoy this product, but I really can’t justify it for it’s price and I already own Base Stations and Index controllers. For half the price I got nearly the same resolution, better headstrap, built in audio, and controllers with the G2. I let almost everyone that comes to my house try VR because it’s so cool so not being able to share this cool product is a huge downside.
I’ve wanted a base station tracked headset for so long but I cant justify A $1k VR headset just for me. For a headset only I tap out at about $400-$500 (Index range) and $700-$800 for a full kit. I love PCVR but it’s just way too much for me.
Still waiting for the SteamVR tracking capable, 2K x 2K+ res, pancake lens, eye tracking, variable IPD, comfortable head strap, good mic, and Index like speakers headset for $500-800 dollars.
Also I died when you put the Beyond inside the Index face gasket lol.
This is just really expensive for what it is.
In my mind, it’s a somewhat improved Reverb G2 V2 which double (if you already have base station and controllers) to triple (if not) the price (given you also already have wireless headphones that are fit for VR use).
Also: Does this have a full RGB submatrix or is it pentile? Because while RGB is 3 subpixel per pixel, Pentile is basically just 2. That was what made me switch from my Rift CV 1, because the effective resolution was considerably lower than the rendered one.
It would be cool if someone took this type of form factor and made a custom strap that allowed you to connect it to your phone for watching anime but even I know that would require some on board tracking cameras which would probably making it a tad more bulky
Still super insanely excited for this stuff to keep going forward and eventually even influence stand alone headsets to allow for more use able mobile VR
This sounds like an awesome headset!
the thrill vibe at the end XD love it
Looks very nice. Though i want eye tracking. I’m still using the original vive with the valve controllers. Been waiting like 2 years for a good headset with eye tracking.
Are you dating Phia? I will not stop asking
while i am excited about this console, i know it’s going to be insanely expensive.
also, DAYUM your apartment view is nice.
I would buy this right now but I’ve set myself a goal of waiting for a headset with full eye tracked foveated rendering that boosts performance (a la psvr2). I’ll probably be waiting a long time. Not sure I can wait that long.
omg… add in eye tracking and the face tracking support and i am all in
We keep getting closer to ready player one ski goggle headsets. This is actually insane. Plus, with the finger/haptic gloves coming up, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get ready player one by 2025-2027. Though it is expensive, I’m sure other companies will adapt this “gut it and customize it” motto. I’m really excited for this to become, hopefully, the PcVR standard for weight/size.
Edit:
I will say it’s kind of expensive for removing stuff inside and no controllers/base stations, or even audio. But it’s still pretty cool. I guess for the best setup you’d be spending probably (including headset) 1600-1700 with bass stations and knuckle controllers. Oh yeah, good headphones too, or the audio strap. I dunno, but I think I’d rather have one of these than a pimax, which is still more expensive. This is definitely the future.
Double Tap is a banger I’d say it’s top 5 of DnB from 2022
The small form factor and customizable features are cool, BUT there are just way too many drawbacks. No inside out tracking, Not wireless, Narrow FOV, No eye tracking, Requires newer iPhone to get facial scan and it costs $2000+ with all additional purchases.
Soon they’ll be so small you wouldn’t even know you’re wearing it
This. This might be the one.
I own several VR headsets, in total I spent enough money to rival this investment. But it was all piecemeal. Google Cardboard and Nintendo Labo, a used PSVR or Acer WMR, a black friday Quest 2. None of that was cheap for me at the moment, but each stood for a next step in technology I wanted to experience. Just VR experiences, good games, then good controllers, finally wireless. But I never made the jump to the hardcore PC-VR setup. It just was not appealing for the price.
But somehow now, this is tempting. This is something I want to be a part of and I’m kinda okay with getting all the required fluff and technology brand new. And quite honestly, them letting you make this video was probably a better advertisement than they could have ever made by themselves. I’m gonna wait a bit. Bit man I’m hooked.
So as someone who wears contacts (and not glasses), I would have to take my contacts out anytime/any place I wanted to play VR then pop them back in afterwards? Gonna be a hard sell for me. It’s nice if you’re just alone in your room for hours but if you take your headset on the go or if you just wanted to pop on for a few games it seems a bit overboard. A nice feature in some situations ig
It would be perfect if the price was cut in half… It’s functionnaly a screen (sold with no controllers, no integral battery, processor etc) so it should cost around the same or a bit more. But it cost the same as the Setup needed to run it…
Imagine if they’d release a cheaper version, with rudimentary IPD adjustment and standardised foam piece, for 250 to 350 bucks… The best entry point to Steam VR pretty much.
The concept of this headset, as lightweight/small as possible, for pcvr only, is really great. (I’d only add inside-out tracking if it was me, I have a Lenovo Explorer I ideally want an update for a similar price with better resolution and smaller form factor (like being able to lie down without an adjustment wheel in the way) so yeah I’m biased though)
The BS Beyond looks cool though.
I think, since the foam pice is esily detachable, that they should offer a standard foam piece for people who don’t want a scan of their face to be lying around somewhere in someone else’s server…
Looks like it might be time to upgrade! Cant wait for the full review, I have 1 grand burning a hole in my pocket for a new PCVR headset for about one year now
Omg. Thrill, I don’t know if you do any racing vr. But can you do a video trying this on racing vr?
I used my quest 2 for racing vr and while it’s fun the form factor makes it head heavy and it can bother the neck a lot.
But that tiny form factor might just be a game changer.
HIgher FOV, wireless option, and inside out tracking would make this perfect. It’s always something with these headsets. Looks cool for some ppl though.
bit of a shame only apple users can buy it
