Amazing, just amazing.
heads up, the amazon links are broken
I’ve been an audiophile for at least a few years now and I had no idea what SPL meant until today.
Moooar, please. The interview is very cool, would love to hear more perspectives from different people in the industry, maybe more tech talks like why ribbon headphones, and even marketing people on why they say what they say and what the lies actually mean.
Also would love you to try your headphones on plebs and see how much difference some of these things actually make. Carrawong did this and got people to guess what the price of the headphone might be, was very cool to watch and really set things in perspective.
I love my ZMF Aeolus, I think I’m finished here. Been through so many headphones.
Very well put together video Josh! Was a pretty interesting watch even for non-beginner audiophiles. I’d be happy if you could put together a similar video for level 1-3 DACs, AMPs, and combos of both! I feel like that’s a more difficult topic to get into for new people once they go past the headphone selection.
Abyss shouldn’t be taken seriously and not be presented as experts
That outro beat had my eardrums playing duckhunt with how much it switched from left to right. Didn’t know if I should dance or see a doctor. OMGWHATSONGISTHATINEEDITINMYLIBRARY!
better build….. Hifiman…… mate you kidding me???
asking Abyss for beginner advice is like going to Ferrari looking for a learner’s car
Hey, Josh! Loved the video.
I have a quick question- I ‘m currently in the market for a pair of beginner audiophile headphones. I have two cans that are in my budget that I’ve shortlisted- HD 599 and HE400SE.
Now my questions is- I know 400SE would def require an amp, hence it’ll drive the price up exponentially(more than double the HD 599), but I have an HTR 3067 Receiver, so would it be able to drive the HE400SE fine or is a dedicated Amp required? And is the price difference justified or 599 still a solid deal at the price.
HD 599 would cost me- INR 9000 ~ $125
He400 SE- INR 13000 ~ $175 + Amp(let’s say Magni Heresy- $150 more. Total = $325
So, is $200 premium for HE400SE worth it?
Great video, very informative in the first 2 parts and I would recommend this to every beginner. Eric wasn’t really a great guest though, he kept talking from the perspective of an engineer, and not an enjoyer.
Are Audio Interface = DAC? Can high end headphone like Seinny 800S able to get the best quality through GO XLR for gaming streams which I would like to control chat channels ie mute voip etc.. or better to get AI/AMP/EQ to power instead and software to control chat channels ie Streamdeck/Voicemeter?
Hey Josh, thank you for sharing your knowledge, I have always wondered if there is any difference between an audio interface and DAC/amp. I know that the audio interface definitely does the job of an DAC, but what about amplification? My apogee duet seems to easily drive my 250ohm Beyerdynamic. According to my Major requirement, I will need to buy an even better one in the future which makes me wonder if there is a need for me to buy amps and DACs that’s specifically for “hifi”
All this video did was make me want pizza
Thanks bro! But for real where to cop on your hoodie?
the credits for DMS LOL
One of the main lessons I learned from Joshua and other good headphone reviewers is to start cultivating a listening habit focussing on what I like to hear. The way we interpret sound is very much a personal choice and the lack of quality on any headphone depends on how you cultivate your listening habits. And for a begineer audiophile to take time and listen to a lot before jumping into an expensive purchases. Start with what you can afford because it is going to be a journey. Also our preferences do change. Have fun while at it! Its very much like music. I dont like to listen to some of the bands I loved in my youth anymore.. so will be the case with headphones.
audiophile headphones for beginners. Buy Sennheisser HD600 , 650, 660. Whichever is cheapest. Buy any headphone amp of the following – anything by Topping, thx 789, cavalli monolith, SMSL or Singxer. dont waste money on cables, except the cheapest balanced set you can get for your new amp. If it takes balanced. The end.
