“Not the way of the future”
is kinda besides the point.
Stax have existed for decades
and are very highly regarded by
serious audiophiles.
It’s like saying supercars aren’t
the way of the future for the
average commuter. No shit.
Great video, Josh (y)
One of the greatest video of your channel !!! So informative
Thanks Josh. Just starting out with headphones after a 30 year break. Limited funds so Sampson 850. Waiting for velour pads…
Most interesting part is the interview. Need more insightful videos like this from this channel.
What is that tube amp stack at 9:50? I’m sure I can’t afford it but it looks so amazing I must lust after it from afar
Josh! Great video. An amazing intro for those starting out. One thing that might be important to note is that planar magnetic headphones require a ton of power too, despite their low impedance. It’s just that need more current rather than the greater voltage that dynamic headphones require.
RIP Sennheiser Headphone division
If you’re new to upgrading your audio gear do NOT underestimate the impact your hearing makes. Be honest with yourself. If you can’t hear certain parts of the spectrum, getting a better headphone might not make a difference to you. If you can hear most frequencies but you need a very loud volume for that to happen, don’t buy headphones that sound great at normal levels but distort as soon as you give them too much power. A clue that your hearing might not be that good is your standard first response when someone talks to you is “Huh, what? because you always need people to repeat what they just said, a bit louder, since you couldn’t quite hear it the first time.
@Joshua Valour, bro, have I got bad news for you 😭, Sennheiser is selling its consumer division to to Sonova. Damn it, I was never able to get my hands on an HD800s. I hope can in the couple of months.
I think this is one of your best, very ambitious yet very thought out and appropriate
my innermost dream is the AB-1266
in a pure titanium housing
Despite what you said, that above 100db sensitivity you don’t really need an amplifier I have bought some Sennheiser HD660s some time ago and they are even on the loudest settings on my devices to quiet for me. The Headphones have a sensitivity of 104 dB but an impedance of 150Ohms. So I am looking for an appropriate amplifier, my focusrite scarlet 2i2 3rd gen (what i use for my mics can’t drive it properly as well.) If you have any suggestions I would be glad. Please keep the cost in mind, it should not be over 200€ ideally close to 100€. Great Video by the way very high quality and informative as I like it.
“Their hearing”, referring to humans… scary
Great video!! And i don’t event watch it yet. Surely many of us are just starting in this headphone world and is good way to start.
I really enjoy your Videos, thank You.
Glad to see Eric from ABYSS on this one! If you haven’t already, check out their channel. Super in-depth discussions about all things audio. And some not (see refrigerator review)
This wouldve been great to have when I started a little over a year ago.
Your production quality blows me away with every video. Absolutely insane that you’re still under 100k!
Hey Joshua, thanks a lot for this. One of the best informational videos on the internet, haha.
