I hate being termed an “audiophile” by friends and family but:
This video is great, really informative and chill.
My biggest advice: slowly build up your audio, don’t go around spending 500 dollars immediately because you heard a pair is good. Also don’t mess around with DACs at the start, and don’t buy an amp unless you really need to, up to about 80ohms and in most cases, any laptop could run the headphones well.

Beginner here. I edit films for a living, and I decided to get myself a decent pair of headphones. The one I purchased has an Impedance: of 300 ohms. Which amplifier would you recommend for something with that kind of power?

I got a pair of Sennheiser HD600’s about 10 years ago and I’ve run them from different devices, including a Fiio amp (I don’t remember which one exactly). I stopped researching what kind of upgrade should I get next because of the whole “audiophile” bs hype. I’m currently running my phones from my PC and, being sure I could do better, I can’t justify spending hundreds for minor upgrades.

What do you guys think a significant upgrade would be? A real no-bs amp or dac that actually makes a difference or simply a different set of phones? I do love the the sound signature of my Senns, do you guys think I’m really missing out?

Well done to all parties. Eric is a superb technical communicator, even allowing for the possibility that the editing inflates my perception of the final cut (either way, NJ Josh, great video and interview). I’m impressed.

I can’t evaluate Eric as an Engineer one way or another ofc based on just this interview, either in the drawing room or on the floor. But communication is certainly an asset as a team leader, and he seems very well put-together (I’m sure his colleagues are very happy that he represented them so competently and charismatically).

I guess I have to keep my eye on Abyss.

Generally I recommend everyone to research frequency responses and technical terms when describing headphones like imaging/soundstage, things that dont show up on frequency graphs.

Understand the graphs and play around with equalizers to further understand them.

And never forget that the hobby is completely subjective and the only thing that matters is if YOU like the sound.

I just dove into my audio journey, been using the Fiio k7 pro and a pair of DT 900 pro x and gotta be the best audio I have heard, still very new to this and was kinda an impulse buy, so I am doing my research now and your channel has helped me out immensely I bought a balanced dac and I didn’t even know what balanced was until today, but anyways thanks for the video.

Don’t rule out closed back. Closed back can still be good, and depending on your situation can be very useful.
