“And are probably not going to be the way of the future… A lotta people are gonna be mad at that one…”
I found the downvote… 😛
thanks DMS!!!
23:43 is where the subliminal commercial starts. If you believe that there is more to gain from DACs, amps, cabling and power conditioning than from headphone/transducer improvements, then congratulations, you’ve graduated audiofool school.
Great video, btw, Josh! I would have prefered the audio expert be a retired Sennheiser/Sony engineer, but otherwise great info and questions.
Long video?
Sign me up boiii!
Thanks for the interesting video. In a follow up video, I‘d like to know something about IEMs and why many headphone enthusiasts like them so much.
LOL you ask an abyss guy selling thousand dollar cables what’s misleading in audio. and he says its the measurements! what a Joke
This should have been 100k special, very interesting video.
I emailed a few months ago and asked you if you could do this. Thank you. I know have the s.m.s.l SU-9 and SH-9 Amp and Dac. Because you said it was awesome, and it is. I then purchased the Hifiman 400i 2020 edition, but wanted more soundstage , so I bypassed the Sundara and stepped up to the Hifiman Anada . I really like, but his will be my limit, I think, well I don’t know. I did a unboxing of both items. Thanks Josh

This was awesome.
Informative, entertaining and just pleasant to listen to.
Best video of the year.
I have been thinking of getting into audiophile headphones for a while and your review of the HE400i actually influenced me to get a HE400se. Glad to see you recommending them for beginners haha. Great video with top notch editing, as always
I honestly stoped listening to reviews. I bought lcd 2c after watching Josh’s review. But i was so disappointed with my buy, i didn’t use it for a year. I thought my $40 KZ is better and used it daily. But truth is I never knew the weakest link in the chain. These big reviewer have all fancy dac, amp, cable, plugin, burned-in headphones. Now after 1.6 years my lcd really shines and can understand what he was trying to say after correcting all the wrong i was doing. So point is, every reviewer can tell you, buy this and that for bass, mids, soundstage and treble. But how your headphone will sound to its full potential, that you have figure out by yourself.
I’m surprised the K361 wasn’t in Level 1, as a closed-back option. Actually, no closed backs here seems kind of a problem.
That said, I like the idea overall. I agree with a lot of the points and think this seems a good beginners guide.
“DMS – idk what he does” hahahahah
Perfect timing for me
*Listening on apple earbuds with 5 dollars*
Hmmm yes, audiophile
I love listening to Eric. I greatly prefer closed back generally, I LOVE my Ether CXs. However… With Abyss working on a closed back….
and the biggest drawback of planar magnetics is that it’s almost guaranteed that it will quickly go defective. (just like tubes, but tubes are cheaper to replace). that’s why no professional company messes with them.
