Sony Z1R over the LCD XC? Only reason why I’m asking this specifically is I’ll have to finish when I get a better connection and I’m contemplating trying to get in this July pre order. I need the closed back for recording and streaming as something I want to dip my toes into (aside from just enjoying my lovely audio!). A ton of my collection got stolen and I never had the chance to try the LCD XC’s, but I want honest feedback! Thank you to whoever reads this

I have a sort of odd alternative for budget amplifier/DAC… Buy a used LG G series or V series phone. They have really good DACs with strongest output (for a phone). Bonus points for rooting it to add Viper4Android for EQ and processing enhancements. I was using a G4 that I bought for maybe $45 and it was pretty impressive.

Watching this 6 or so years after buying my oppo PM3’s , however the right ear muff has started to peel away, and they aren’t replaceable…kinda my fault there…but still …they still work just fine an love em, but still thinking of a new/better pair and keep these as a backup

oh yeah and about a dac….I only play music through my phone while at work in my van and Milwaukee box with aux cord, then at home always use headphones plugged into back of PC… should I still get one???

I’m sure the concept of the pizza analogy sounded really stupid when you put it together, but it actually was the missing link for my understanding of what the difference was between high end headphones. I don’t think I’ve seen a video online that quite explained it like that.

Additional driver types to cover – AMT (Air Motion Transformer) like Heddphone & true ribbon driver like Raal SR1A. The AMT and Ribbon tech platforms are well known and developed in full scale 2 channel speaker setups. For those implementations the ribbon and AMTs are typically used for tweets / highs solely and thus are known for speed, dynamics, and transient response yet don’t really have bass/impact/punch. Although Josh doesn’t think that estats are the future of hps you certainly could entertain that AMTs and ribbon headphones have potential for a long path toward development.
