I don’t want to sound like I know it all. Feel free to correct me nicely if I’m wrong but doesn’t the actual song file have to have the correct codec. Unless the music is recorded by specific equipment that embeds a specific code. what does code attempts to do is something highly advanced. The algorithm that is in the codec attempts to take layers of the songs such as vocals drums horns base and give it a perceived difference in space. In very simple terms it makes it seem like instead of listening through headphones it is closer to the sound of a live event. It creates a what seems like an artificial sense of distance and direction of where you think the sound is coming from. Again I could be incorrect. I think this technology was supposed to be apples first Fourier into 3D audio. Something that non Apple phones have been doing AKA Android since the early 2000s. Way to go keeping up with those trends Apple. *Extreme sarcasm*
