Fantastic, informative review!
Hi Steve, With your rave review I bought this camera body. But I am having trouble with the videos. Autofocus keeps readjusting and subject keeps going out of focus on a fairly fast moving bird. I have been using AF-C mode with single focusing point. How can I solve the problem of readjusting focus problem? Would any other focusing mode such as group or dynamic mode will help me? I am very annoyed by the current situation. What is point in having 4k when it is taking time to focus, so I don’t get a good video without the subject being out of focus every few seconds? Help!
I’m a photo-journalist (on a budget) based in the North of England. I have been using largely prime lenses with a D7000 with decent and sometimes very pleasing results. I have been looking for an upgrade to fix pretty much the only issues getting in my way – a small buffer, not so great ISO performance and mixed results with autofocus. It’s otherwise a nice but dated camera. After looking at the specs, there was only really one choice for me between the D7200 and D7500. That’s the D7500. The better weather sealing is a big plus in the North of England. And so is the performance, speed, low light capability and weight. A second card slot would have been nice but I’ve only ever used mine for overflow. Maybe I should have employed it for important jobs but I’ve been doing this job for 15 years and I’ve never had a card failure but I have had camera failures. It came to the simple question: which of these two fantastic cameras over a year’s use would stand more chance of returning better photos for me. The answer was the D7500. It will be great for no-fuss portraits (with a pop-up flash in commander mode for off-camera flash, one thing the d500 doesn’t have), general shots, events and sports, not to mention a superb camera for taking family shots of our two under-7s in action. The only thing I was worried about was dropping the alloy in the build but after a bit of research my mind (if not my heart) was put at rest. I am also looking forward to using it for my personal hobby of taking landscape photos in the northern dales of England…. Oh did I mention the draw of better weather sealing. Thanks for an old fashioned review based on skills, experience and time.
Great video! You shurely put in a lot of work and it pays off for the viewer. Really well done, covers almost all the information I was hoping to get!
Thank you so much. But I would like to know which is better for birds. 9 focusing squares or group AF. I’m definitely gonna want the d7500. Somethings telling me that it’s a really great camera. I know it came back to one SD card slot but I don’t care about that. I don’t know why everyone’s winning about that.
Nice review! Which dslr camera do you recommend for great low light and portraits?
Thanks for the genuine real review. So refreshing and I keep getting crap for defending/recommending this camera and now I can pop a link toYour video
I will can’t use my AF-D lenses in this camera?
Is it me or is it noticeable that the D7500 shutter sounds less noisier than the other two? (D500, D7200). It really matters to me as a nature/bird photo enthusiast. That card slot is stopping us so much… 🙁 Thanks for your nice videos! Regards from Spain.
That was the best camera review I’ve EVER seen. You have a great way of saying only what’s needed. How in the hell you’re doing that without cards, I haven’t a clue. Can’t wait to see if you reviewed the D500. I’m likely going to grab that this weekend. Thanks for this!
Great review. Am getting the D7500 but am unsure to get the kit lens. The sigma 24-105 f4 art lens is my preferred replacement to the kit. Its not cheap though. Would you please give me more pocket friendly options to the sigma?
Hi Steve!! I love your clear reviews!! I would like to order a Ebook, wich one is also covering the D7500!?… this is going to be new body together with the Nikon 200-500F5.6!
Greetings from the Netherlands
Thank you Mr. Perry, your video helped me big time in understanding and making a decision for which one to buy. Finally bought D7500 on Black Friday (Canada), loving it. Big thanks!!!!
you do a really good review and educational video Steve, love your work
When would the DoF preview actually be useful except for Macros? I can see it on an FX, but for DX, I’ve never seen much use for it, but that could be that I am not using the right lenses.
Steve, one last question, but, please, tell me: this camera will work with my new 80-200 AF 2.8 with autofocus? Please, I need to know!
once again Steve did an excellent video review on camera
Thanks for reviewing this camera. Now I’m getting this camera.
Great Review! I just picked up a D7500 this past weekend with a 70-300 AF-P FX. I had the old VR version of the lens that was great for the D70 I first used it with but that was over 10 years ago. I must say the AF-P on the 7500 is nothing short of stunning for focus speed. My daughter is loving my 7200. I just was never super satisfied with how it felt. Had a great weekend and have some time off this week.
Many people say “Ehh I dont want a vertical grip it makes the camera heavier” – then dont use one boy. Have you ever held a large lens with large fingers? All my cameras have vertical grips. Even my beloved “sidearm” D3200 with a third party one. It does not cost anything to leave it on there and does not add weight. But okay, now we have the D500 as the “pro” DX camera, so they do not to completely eat that market away.
