Well thank you Steve. It’s about time some of these experts lowered themselves to really take out the d7500 and test out the improvements and comparisons of this camera; instead of sitting in their comfortable studios and proclaiming they knew all about this camera’s potential without deigning to put their hands on it. I’m subscribing to you and will purchase your how to books. You’re awesome! You finally answered my questions about the d7500/ d500/ and d7200 comparisons. Thumbs up brother!
As usual, Steve, you are the voice of reason in the jungle of the Internet. If I didn’t have the D500 already, I’d grab the D7500 without hesitation for my wildlife and sports shooting. Thanks for taking the time to do this review.
Yes Steve please do the fine af auto tune video!
Hi Steve, thank you very much for this comprehensive, clear and objective review of the Nikon D7500. I also appreciated the comparaison with the D500 and D7200. As you stated at the end of the review, photography is not only about equipment. Understanding light and composition are also key components of good photography. Cheers!
Amazing review Steve. Please keep going on!!!
Thank you for an (as always) great video and comprehensive review. There is one thing I’ve been wondering about this camera, but no one seem to mention it 🙂 On the d5500 when shooting through the OVF you can program the touch screen so that sweeping your thumb across it changes your focus point. Naturally, this is way faster than using the U/D/L/R buttons and probably as fast as the highly praised joystick on the d500 (allthough I haven’t actually tried the latter). Do you know if this possible on the d7500? Regards.
Finally a real review from a real reviewer! Thanks Steve. love your videos.
Great review and video as always! The highest quality. I’m not even into Nikon / DSLR’s yet, but i enjoy the content none the less. To me it seems many of the new additions / directions come from the mirrorless world, which is interesting. Your pictures are always superbly fine, you absolutely know what you’re talking about. Thank you very much!
thank you !
Great review, I own a 7200 and am seriously considering upgrading. I do everything with my cameras so I want all the features.
Things the 7500 brings.
Tilt screen
Highlight metering this was a revelation under stage lights when I rented a D750.
GRP AF
Face Detect AF.
Electronic first curtain for Astrophotography
Better video focusing & touch. 7200 is a PITA.
Power Aperture for video.
Deeper Grip
Non issues for me.
2nd Card slot. Really not an issue for me.
Never owned a Grip.
Don’t own old lenes, survived with out it AI support on my D70 and D90.
My only concern is the D500 sensor is less forgiving in highlights than 7200. What was your experience with highlight recovery?
Steve, GREAT review. I just found the latest Firmware for the D500 Ver.1.13 and was hoping it would include a menu driven touch screen…but does NOT. Do you think this will be made available for the D500 anytime soon?
After reading the other reviews scattered online I knew I would finally get an unbiased real world assessment when you got ahold of this camera. Totally understand the benefits of the D500 but am looking for a take along water resistant camera for backcountry flyfishing and even the smallest size advantage is worth some compromise . Just rented a Pentax K3II and while a fine camera ( dual card slot, nice interface, in body stabilization, cost ) , Nikon’s AF seems to be quite more capable along with the extras you detailed so well. Can’t thank you enough Steve .
Wow. What a thorough review! Steve hopefully I did not miss it, but did you use back button AF when testing?
Steve, your videos, personality and detail is so awesome. The best on YouTube!
Really luv/enjoy your reviews Steve and very much appreciate the thought and time you put into each one. This D7500 has me scratching my head. The only conclusion I can draw is Nikon was *really* working hard to make it to a certain MSRP point by cutting some features. I’m pretty new to the digital photography realm after a *very* extended sabbatical post-film. So I’m trying to sort things out in my mind in terms of features, camera ‘families’, and so on. This D7500 strikes me as the proverbial bastard stepchild not truly enhancing the feature grouping at any given price point. So without the battery grip even being available, waving buh-bye to AIS glass (really??), a rear screen with the resolution that’s a throwback to the D90 days etc etc maybe it’s the universe’s way of telling me to chill a bit and get more proficient with my current aging, but still beloved, D7100. Forgive the rant but this whole thing has that marble in my head just spinning about madly. Luv your channel and always look forward to the next video .. oh, that e-book on autofocus features .. over the top my friend and very much appreciated!! Peace Out
I think there is quite a significant different on visual between 2.3M dots LCD and 922k dots LCD, i just bought my D500 2 months ago, after i take a look on the screen of D500 and switch to D7100, i immediately feel a little pixelize like i can see the pixel block, and you know D7100 has 1.2M dots of LCD screen.
Great job Steve!

Hmm. I’m rather satisfied with my recent D7200 purchase, but I am happy that the D7500 isn’t as bad a camera as I’ve been led to believe. Good job, sir. It may not be applicable for me at this point – I’m personally aiming for a D500 next, maybe will grab it next year, after which I’ll sit on that a while before eventually moving up to…something? I dunno if I want a D5 or a D750 as my Full Frame body, but I’ll have _plenty_ of time for that decision. ^_^
Woh you lost a lot of weight, good for you! Trying to lose some myself. Thanks for the review btw 🙂
Nikon d7500 is good Dslr camera.which is heavily affected by bad press.
nice unbiased review👍
