Whenever I watch videos like this wonder if I made the right choice going with the nikon z6 4 years ago. Maybe if Nikon comes out with a z6iii sometime this year like at CP+ I might feel better about my choice.
Thanks to the review and the sample file. The camera looks amazing and Canon, contrary to Nikon has actually well-priced glass. The only low-price native option for the Nikon is the 40mm f2.0 and it’s still more expensive than the Canon. 50mm. For us Nikon Shooters Nikon needs less expensive glass and professional portrait lenses. They also need to control prices, they have to understand that they are the underdog and in terms of AF this $2500 camera is competitive with the Z9. On the other hand, they are killing it with telephoto lenses.
These days is about Canon and Sony for sure. Everyone else is playing for 3rd
How can you consider it more affordable than Sony if you don’t consider also lenses for the same cost?
For photography purposes, Canon nailed R6ii. You cannot nick pick R6ii unless dig into video.
When there is 3rd party RF AF lenses. It’ll be the most well rounded camera at the 2500USD range.
How does the S5 II fit into the equation?
If I recall correctly you can load LUTs on the camera for both photos and videos. I can see me loading my most frequently used looks and get jpegs that I can put out instantly
I have the R6, and love it. This is definitely on my list as an upgrade at some point. I shoot a lot of wildlife, and this is one of the only cameras I know of which has a ‘pre-shooting’ mode. Micro 4/3 has had it for years, and I believe the Nikon Z9 can do it. Other than that, maybe the Canon R7? It’s one of the things I miss from my days shooting Olympus, and almost reason enough for me to go ahead and get an R6 II.
I sent my R6ii back. Not worth the upgrade. Af is just as good and I can’t tell the differences in image quality.
Sony shooter here, and yes I agree Canon has come a long way just recently with their mirrorless cameras but for me they are still too bulky which I dont like and their lens are also expensive compaired to Sony and Nikon which also have 3rd party lens avalible unlike Canon. If I were to switch from Sony it would be to Nikon Z9 camera and Z50 from my Sony A7R III and A6100. But since Im with Sony I think Ill just keep saying up for that Sony A1. All 3 camera manufactors are a great choice and even though Im personally not a fan of Canon I have reconmended the R6 and R5 to photographers.
I don’t know about it being the best but R6ll sure is amazing. My full frame sensor camera of choice will still be and remain the Sonys a7IV – it just goes too well with my X2D, especially with all the E mount native Voigtlander and Zeiss glass.
Publishing this on 17 January 2023 and not mentioning the S5 II, one of the most obvious competitors… hmmmm…
I’m actually more interested in the lens on this. I had little doubt the R62 would be a good shooter, but that chonky f/2 zoom is an undersung engineering marvel all its own. Would love to see something similar on the Sony, Nikon, or L-mount line.
I love my R5 and R6. I mainly use the R5 for stills and the R6 for my YouTube nature photography vlogs. The 4K image in C Log 3 is great. But, once in a while the eye AF just wanders off me, especially if my face is in shadow. I really don’t like having my face in direct sunlight because it makes me squint, which isn’t a good look. Does the R6 II pick up eyes better in shadow? Or will I just have to face the sun and accept more eye damage than I already have? 😆
