of ohtani hit 50 home runs or won the cy young he might have a argument he did neither
consider the value of two people
① Judge = 2 people with 31 home runs. Ohtani = 1 homer with 37 + 1 pitcher with 15 wins. Which do most directors want?
② What if Ohtani was the Yankees? Ohtani has over 20 wins. If the Yankees had a small stadium, they would have hit plus 10 home runs.
③ Which player does the owner want as a business?
Many biased fans act like Ohtani is a good pitcher and an average hitter, and is overhyped because he is a two-way player doing something haven’t been done in 100+ years only because no one has been even attempting.
But the truth is that he is elite in both. Besides a combined WAR of 9.5, below are his stats this season:
Batting (AL)
4th in HR
8th in Run
7th in RBI
7th in walks
5th in SLG
5th in OPS
5th in Total Bases
*He also had an 18-game hitting streak that was the 3rd longest this year in AL.
Pitching (AL)
4th in ERA
4th in Wins
3rd in Ks
1st in K/9
In short, he is a top 5 hitter in AL, with a higher SLG, OPS, and HR total than Jose Ramirez or Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and at the same time, he is also a top 5 pitcher in AL, with a lower ERA than Shane McClanahan, Gerrit Cole, or Robbie Ray.
As some have mentioned, if you swap him and Judge, Ohtani would be the best pitcher AND the best hitter for the Yankees team. Think about how incredible and valuable he really is.
Surely, he probably won’t win the MVP this season, as Judge also had a heck of a season. However, claiming that Ohtani is average in hitting this season just how you are totally biased and clueless.
Sports don’t understand the meaning of MVP anymore.
you would need to trade 2 arron judges to get 1 shohei ohtani. he’s the REAL mvp BY FAR. he’s easily the best player to ever play ALREADY
When you love the game like shohei you can be anything you want
You missed the curve ball.
15 win=35homers
35+34=69homers
69homers > 62homers
Aaron Judge is popular in NY.
Shohei Ohtani is popular in the world!
1.High school level at bat.
2.Two-way, both are average player class in MLB.
3.Overrated
4.Stephen A. smith
If shohei doesn’t get league mvp, MLB will really have to consider how they calculate metrics and vote. This guy isn’t just a unicorn on the mound, but a unicorn in all of baseball.
Too little too late. Ohtani was the 1st player in history to qualify as batter and pitcher yesterday and MLB didn’t deem this worthy of a highlight….what the actual f-ck.
NO CAP. i cant see this guy not being MVP. NO CAP
2 of the best players in MLB and Angels can’t manage a winning record. I feel bad for Angels fans.
If there is a football playing both ways at a pro bowl level
Or a all star hockey player playing both goalie and center etc etc
I’m going to eat that up and watch
I’m watching Ohtani not only so I can tell the grandkids what I saw
But because I don’t believe he will last long doing it sooner or later he will break down
Where are you most likely to get hurt? On the mound and at the plate
In a MLB where they are now cracking down on pitchers and foreign substances. I expect 60 homeruns to be a common occurrence
I don’t expect another Ohtani
Why would anyone take a paycut, risk injury and not be recognized for it
Baseball is so screwed up, if the Angels had a better record and was going into the playoffs. There would be no doubt he is the MVP of the season, but we look at HRs / Batting Average + wins into the post season and not what ShoTime is doing, changing the game as a two way SKILLED player. Unicorn indeed🦄 … props to Judge & the Yankees , but they need to share this award
Aaron Judge has incentives in his contract which give him $250,000 if he gets the MVP award… Judge is in his walk year, New York did not extend him when they had the chance, now they will have to win a bidding war to retain him. Ohtani is the OBVIOUS true MVP to anyone who doesn’t live in the New York Media (Hype-Machine) Market, that being said, many of the writers who vote are going to want to entice Judge to stay a Yankee and to try to show Yankee ownership what a huge mistake it would be to let Judge go after such a historic season.
If they not going to give any award to this best baseball player just because he is not the best pitcher or the best hitter, it will be a shame in baseball history.
Say what you want. Breaking the HR record and being 1st on most of the hitting stats, yes, it is GREAT. Judge had a remarkable season. But Is this the FIRST time we have ever seen people like that? No. There had been a lot of great hitters in our days.
Now Ohtani. Has there anyone like him before? ABSOLUTELY NOT. And people treat him like we’ve seen him before. “Ah average at both, not worth. Focus on one thing.” Are you out of your mind? All these people saying he is not that great, clearly have never played a baseball and don’t know what it takes to be an elite player on both side.
I think the only way he shouldn’t be MVP is if his pitching numbers were worse than last year but they’re somehow even better…
